Latest copy of Evo landed on my mat this morning. Not read properly yet but flicking through there is an article on Peter Wheelers new 'toy' - the Scamander. It appears to be some sort of off-road, on-road, amphibious vehicle! Looks totally mad.

Given his track record, I'd say it's pretty brave of Mr Wheeler making a watertight car! Looking at the styling, I think it would actually look better fully submerged. Still, good luck to him.

I think... in an odd way... looking for an 'encore' to the iconic TVRs as yet another sports car is kind of missing the point...

The Cerbera never grabbed me at first sight but once I got one - bought for no other reason than it was much faster than my Griff 500 - I suddenly "got it". And got it bad. No other TVR after the Cerbera got me the same way (which led to my Cerbera-with-more-Cerbera stuff-in 2005). I've always struggled to explain WTF it is about the Cerbera... yeah it goes, yeah I can make it dance, yeah it looks awesome, THAT interior, the sheer theatre of the keyless entry/starting blah blah... but perhaps the most compelling thing about Cerberas is that for all their barking madness, contradiction of family-car-with-race-engine and leftfield ergonomics... they really do make sense which sounds all sensible, and yet every journey is special, an adventure. But Cerberas were about a moment in time, a bargain supercar slayer, a rude shock in the mid-90s....

So... the Scamander... I read the EVO article, looked at the pictures and felt the same urge to get my hands on one as I do when I look at my Cerberas. The sci-fi looks and weirdness-with-a-good-reason is vintage Wheeler IMO. Read the feature - about twice the ground clearance of a Rangie.... able to belt down lanes where the benchmark LR Defender would knock your teeth out... and you can drive across lakes... or use a remote control to drive it across water to you... it's like nothing else with it's vintage-Bentley sized wheels... and yet it's so LOGICAL, just as the Cerbera is when you tune into it.

I never thought I'd want an off-road vehicle... but then I never thought I'd want a supercar-smashing family coupé either... Some vintage Wheeler remarks in the article too: "lots of people are fed up with their traditional sports cars" and "stupidity of all this CO2 nonsense".

clap I love it! smile

The mention in the article of the fact that PW still owns the Blackpool factory caught my eye - thereby of course hangs a tale that forms at least part of the reason TVR is no more.. Amidst the idolatry of Wheeler and criticism of Smolensky, this point is easily missed.

Everyone thought the site would be sold to developers, not sure whether there was any truth in the rumours though. Guess the market isn't good for that kind of thing at the moment anyway... Much better for messing around with cars driving

Cool name

Scamander - a river god, son of Oceanus and Tethys apparently

Park it up next to Cerberus

The point being a business has property seprate from other business..

Just like my wife... Opticians and property to seperate business's

VERY standard, not to have all your eggs(assets) in one basket...

IF, however someone comes along says I'll buy that company and doesn't bother to find out what's included, well what a muppet!!!!
