..right chaps.. i am going for some Vredestein Ultracs. i know they won't be uber sticky but they sound a decent compromise and are good in wet apparently.. which i like the idea of. i couldn't find anyones views about them on the MINI so i thought i'd go for it - i'll report back.

lets face it, they cost way less than the runflats and will struggle to be worse (even though i don't actually mind runflats too much).

oh and yes i did have a puncture and two are 'rogered' so i only have one decent one left which itself has done 13k miles so if i can't finally take the jump and go non runflat then when can i..!?

It's a revelation, runflats make the MINI dangerous in the wet IMHO, i attribute them to why i killed my Cooper.

I've now got Pirelli Pzero Asimmetrico on OZ Ultraleggeras and the car is a million times more responsive and provides far more feedback.

i've got a slippery diff and if you are on the inside land of the M1 in the rain in the truck ruts... you really don't want to accelerate hard or it wanders all over the shop...

i'd love to have that extra feeling of wet weather 'grip' and frankly 'good' dry grip will be nice too!

once they're bed in i might try and remember to write something about them because i couldn't find any one running these tyres on a mini (r53 or otherwise). evo tried them n a few different cars and were convinced and generally the reviews are good so i thought i'd have a punt.

Run flat tyres run flat because the sidewalls are so damn stiff they might just as well be made out of wood. Once you change to `normal` tyres the mini is trasnformed giving a much more compliant ride. Not only does the ride comfort improve but the handling is much more confidence inspiring. It also appear that the `run-flat` tyres are more prone to punctures anyway and this just boosts the running costs, something we all want to avoid. We've kept the runflat tyres in the garden shed so that if we sell the car back to the mini dealer we can satsify them if they insist on having these crap tyres fitted.

Anyone who is running the `run-flat` tyres change them asap and prepare for a revelation.

For the people worrying about the puncture warning light.
It still works no-matter what tyres are attached because it constantly measures the rotation speed of the wheels using the ABS sensors so when they turn at different speeds when not cornering it decides you've got a problem smile
