In the hopefully unlikely event that your clatter cam 4.2 goes pop what are the options in terms of getting it rebuilt. I heard that the early cranks are no longer available...

You are in Surrey - go to APM and he will sort.
His skill is VERY high, his hrly rate is very reasonable etc...
You can get a 4.5 bottom end as an alternative.

Thought so probably won't happen as car is a 97 with 25000 on the clock so I guess if the crank was going to snap it would have already but it is good to know these things...

Not sure about that mate- I know of two 97 4.2's whose cranks both went at 35k. One of them was mine!

Mine was in one piece when it went to Andy for engine rebuild at 64,000 miles ('96 4.2), but we decided to change it anyway whilst the engine was in bits, so he can get replacements. Also replaced my clatter cams, so again, they are around.

Mine is a 1997 4.2ltr with the later type bottom. Dipstick in front. Now 28000 miles but, after revving it up to 260km/h as fast as I could something happened in (I think) one of the cilinderbanks.

Compressiontest told us that 3 cilinders are below 80% and one at 81/82%. Now to much pressure in the carter.

My engine is going out beginning next year to make room for a LS2 V8 6ltr. It is the second AJP in my car, so it has not done the 28000 miles. Oilpressure is ok (60 cold and 40 hot). Watertemp stays ok. Only spitting out 2 litres of oil every 600km's through the breatherpipe.

So when someone is interested, post me a mail. ACT stainless waterpipes and siliconehoses will be included, because we won't need them (I think).

There are some guys doing 60-70K with these engines. A lot of them say a rebuild one will do 45-50K. That doesn't satisfy me and the serviceproblem in the Netherlands is taking me to the LS engine option.

Hope yours will be doing fine. It's an exciting engine!
