Despite calling for Max Mosley to resign amid the sex scandal, Bernie Ecclestone now wants the FIA President to stay.
Mosley, 69, is contemplating whether to renew his tenure beyond next October, and F1 Chief Executive Ecclestone said: "I would re-elect him for another two decades.
"If he wants to stay, it's right that he should," the Briton told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
In the wide-ranging interview, Ecclestone also played down suggestions the night racing concept might be set to spread beyond the inaugural Singapore Grand Prix.
"It is limited to Asian and overseas races," he said.
"Theoretically all the Grand Prix in that part of the world could be at night, but in 2009 there will only be Singapore."
Ecclestone also said he would be happy to see MotoGP's Valentino Rossi switch to F1.
Asked how much he would like to see it happen, the billionaire answered: "Very. I hope he will arrive one day, and Ferrari give him the machine to do it

After the bulls
t we've been served up this season and last I made my mind up to stop following F1. No more races, no more tv, no more merchandise or anything to do with it (other than a skim of the PH GM threads 
) but it really pains me to do it. I must for my sanity and blood pressure, but I was really hoping that Mosely would somehow, for once in his life do the right thing and leave. Not even for the right or honourable reasons, but just because of circumstance and the promises he made to the media. Maybe things would change and F1 would become enough of a real sport to tempt me back by 2010, maybe even 2009.
I guess now Max will still be Führer at the point when use of cars for entertainment are banned, petrol is outlawed and F1 is disbanded.

I can't help thinking that this speculation that Mosley is going to stay will increase the liklihood of the manufacturers abandoning F1. Even if the Ferrari teams and Williams stay, it will be a shadow of our sport.
The man is a danger to F1. With the current threats of recession, major sponsors might well be looking to limit their outgoings and a sport that few will bother watching and is being controlled by mosley might well be the first in their list.
