Does anybody know of any good Car Auction houses near Chester
Im looking for my first car and was thinking maybe an Auction might be the best way to go.
I've got roughly £1000 to spend, and dont know if that was *too much* to get a decentish first car.
And also has anybody got any bargains in there Auction recently, as was wondering a usual price for an age car, like a 1.2 corsa or the like of.

  • Edit: Not enough

At that budget, always bargain to spend an average of £250 getting the car roadworthy. If it costs less, you did well, but it may also cost more. Whilst there are bargains to be had, for a lot of older cars, the auction is one stop before the scrap yard.

Unless you know exactly what you are doing at a car auction I would not waste your money. At £1000 the amount of money you will save at auction over buying used from the classifieds will in no way make up for being able to test drive and havea good look round. But if you still want to have a go, heres some tips.

Only purchase cars entered by main agents.
Never go over what you can afford.
Remember to find out what the auction will add to the bid price in commission.
There is another 101 things I could say, but for a grand, take my advice and buy from a reputable dealer, start a relationship with him, I always look after customers who come back and buy a second time. Good luck

You won't get a small engined, cheap to insure car any cheaper at auction than you will from a decent dealer by the time you add in the buyers premium. Proces have been silly lately for that sort of thing. Regularly see things go for more than retail money.

I'm quite happy buying three year old ex lease stuff for my own use, even bought my Porsche form auction, via a mate who described it over the phone, but the risk on old cheap stuff is too high unless you're very good at fixing cars.

Much better off 'pinching' a car from a private seller in the current climate.
