What type of oil?

Hi really enjoying the V8S - what a car !!
Going to give the car an oil change but have had conflicting advice as to what i should use. Some say fully synthetic and others semi-synthetic oil should be used. Also what oil filter - advice gratefully received

FRAM PH5443 filter (or equivalent). I would suggest 15/W50 grade oil. You can use thinner oil but it will burn more and have lower oil pressure. I prefer synthetic because it has a higher film strength but this is probably overkill for most people and you can get away with much cheaper oil as long as you change it frequently.

Can't go far wrong with Mobil 1 Motoraport 15W/50, top quality and gives excellent pressure. Know doubt others have their prefered choice.

My V8S had 15/50 Mobil1 in it, I can't compare it to anything else but it worked well with good oil pressure.
I think 0/50 is too thin, and 15/50 pi55ed out of my engine fast enough without it being any thinner!

I'm running Millers CFS10/60 in the 2.9 engine and the oil pressure is excellent even when very hot and it is also fine when cold in terms of getting pressure on start up. This isn't the cheapest but we get it locally at £low thirties.

Thanks for all the feedback - will go to well known motor outlet store tomorrow to buy oil. Any idea how many litres needed for V8S ?

On the question of oils, just to pass on my experiance. When I got the V8 wasn't impressed with the gear change. Changed the gearbox oil to Difflock Evolution 1 and transformed it into nearly a good box.Good stuff works well.
Agree on Mobil 1, I use 0-40 on a 50k engine, its fine.

Evolution 1 is marketed by a Scots 4x4 accessory outfit called Difflock. As you know our LT77 box is used in LandRovers so they market this synthetic oil. I really wasn't happy with ATF so I looked at the forums and found this oil recommended and it has as worked for me. Cheers. Look on www.difflock.com

I can't see anything on there about the spec, other than that it's synthetic. Any idea what grade it is?
