Need to top my coolant today, main question does anyone know what anti-freeze is used in a LS2 VXR as standard and what is the mix ratio. I just want to make sure I am using a compatible product before topping up.

Have tried ringing my Vauxhall main dealer but they are not answering the phone !!

Also, has anyone experienced this.... after giving the car some stick (a rare thing in my case) then turning off the engine, the car decided to drop about a litre of coolant on the floor. It is heat soak causing expansion, so no harm done, and the car never actually overheated when it was running. It is the second time it has happened in 18 months, so not exactly a regular problem. The first time I just had it down as an air lock, but has anyone else had this ? Any suggestions ?

its the red GM coolant you need -about 2 quid a litre from your local dealer and advice I got was not to bother diluting it however others may advise differently.

Are you sure its not condensate from the aircon. Mine leaks that all the time and is normal.

Oh dear. I'm hoping the cooling system is not being pressurised from elsewhere causing the dumping. Not wanting to be a doomsayerb ut lets say you have a weak joint or head gasket. When you cane it, it getting hotter and expanding the joint allowing the pressure into said cooling system???........Hope not. Anyone else on this, Rich?

Could be just overfilling?

Looked up in service manual for my HSV and it says 50% ethylene glycol antifreeze/inhibitor and 50% clean water. I would get it checked out to see if it is a real issue, not heard of it before.

Do you mean the oil pressure feeding into the cooling system? Definately not that, and it didn't drop fluid until the engine was turned off. First thing I checked for and certainly no evidence of anything failing and no oil in the water. Temperature gauge didn't rise either while running or indeed when stopped, so implies one of heat soak/overfill/ or airlock.

Like I say only happened twice in in 18 months, and it was serviced just a week ago so overfilling is possible, coolant level is supposed to be measured warm of course which means easy to overfill if it has been cold. Mechanic friend looked it over and couldn't find a fault.

Weird. You'll have to keep your eye on it. Let us know if anything transpires?

Are you sure its not just a pipe clip letting by at a certain temperature..? on warm up it will go through all temperature ranges very quickly and hence not leak but when cooling down the engine will do so at different speeds for different areas and as such if you get a differentiation between two interfacing areas then the leak may occur and keep leaking for a longer period since the range will be passed through much slower than on warm up... Jezzzz... I aint writing that again so hope Im not talking gobbldygoop!?

You did that without even taking a breath !! Could be. I must do some checking around the pipework at the weekend, will report back if I find anything.
