Does anyone have any first hand experience of the 307BHP+brakes conversions made on a few Cooper S's about 3 years back by Brodie Brittan? I have been offered a very low mileage one and while keen to have it for a bit of fun am wary that it may be an explosion waiting to happen. I've read the August 05 EVO article about them but while it raves about them it doesn't tell you much about pitfalls of ownership, obviously!
Thanks!

Thats a lot of power for a small engine to cope with.

My mechanic feels (ex John Cooper) that these conversions can be more trouble in the long term.
He feels that approx 275 bhp is the max really as the engines start blowing up over that limit.

Hope this helps.

Sounds like the car is fun though, have you got any pics ?

cheers

Get yourself over to www.minitorque.com

You will get more info over there, failing that you could try www.mini2.com but all of the tuner guys have moved to MINITorque.

I'm R99 over there. wavey

MINI2 had some erm, 'issues' which resulted in lots of knowledgeable people throwing the towel in and starting up their own site, free from over zealous mods. wink

Its not my site, but feel free to make your own mind up about which you prefer. smile

I thought that might be the problem

there was a clio site which suffered from those problems few years back

Thanks for replying Jolly.
Will pop over to check the site out :-)

I too am interested to find out how you got on.
There was a blue BBR 307 tuned Mini for sale recently that caught my eye but someone beat me to it!

Lucky you if you purchased the car. If you did, please explain what it is like with the turbo etc.

Thanks,
Mark

far cheaper ways of getting more power outa a cooper s than the 18k BBR conversion hell RMW Rotex is less than a 3rd of that for 299.7 or the full stroker engine that will give over 350 and is reliable is half that

Car is back up for sale with the dealer after only 3 months and just over 1000 miles!
The conversion can't be that good then

To be fair that's the sort of car you'd buy outright not thinking about the implications. I guarantee whoever bought it forgot that running a turbo takes a lot of maintenance.

As Jolly (R99) said, over on MT there's loads of tuners running high power Turbos and Superchargers, but they all know what it takes to keep them running at such high power and, to my awareness, don't have many problems.

That sort of power is not a real problem for the engine as has been proved over and over but obviously will contribute to higher problems, the main problem with that sort of power is normally the blower power drain on the crank as it takes X amount of power to turn the blower which increases the stress. The power is more achievable on a turbo car with less problems as it reduces the engine stress and has no engine power drain. We have seen the engine taking 600Bhp with modifications but GTT sell a 300Bhp++ kit which is in modern mini and looks to be working well.
