Is it just me or has Sky News become the equivalent of the News of the World.

There seems to be dramatic 'Breaking News' every 5 minutes, it used to just for major events that happened once a month or so. Most of this 'Breaking News' is some minor insignificant event that means nothing.

The presenters ask guests/politicians the most stupid/irrelevant questions, the number of spelling/grammer mistakes on the tickers and interactive is embarrasing (i.e. they quoted the new Aston One-77 as having a top speed of 2000mph not 200mph). The business section has disappeared from the interactive all together.

I'm sure they have a lot to blame in consumer confidence, I know they haven't caused it but I'm sure it fuels consumers stopping spending as they make everything so dramatic. They seem to think all the problems in the stock markets is going to be instantly fixed after every goverment announcement, and make a massive fuss when the markets drop but hardly any news once they recover.

Think I'll have to go back to BBC or something else to find out whats going on in the world.
Watch Fox News for some quality, un-biased and non-sensationalist reporting.

I also personally think that Sky News are responsible for hyping an awful lot of stuff up.

With regard to the credit crunch, i'm of the opinion that they will only be happy when we are living in caves.

When there have been emergancy incidents they just love to question if the emergancy services have done the right thing or not.

Why is it that I only see this word used by those who are accusing others of being idiots?

I agree with the OP - but every time I dip back in to the BBC I'm met with a tirade of lefty nonsense and climate change bulls/t.

I'm soon back to flashing yellow screens and sensationalist spaffing...

So what is the best TV Channel for a balanced view of the global political and economic climate?

I like global news with as much emphasis on Asia as the US, but where to get it?

On the times I have appeared on Sky News I found the questions quite informed.

Also the Journalists research the news items in great detail.

At this point I should confess to being under the influence of a bottle of champagne, so my views might be polarised (I don't normally drink)

However knowing Mr Murdoch, he probably has thought of that and will know doubt have Sky Plus HighDefinitionCave lined up and ready to go.

Credit crunch, what credit crunch!
Exactly, although I think my employer gave it to me earlier in the year so it might not count.

It was apparently the official champagne on the titanic.

If you want to see the future of Sky news then just watch Fox news were the US goes the UK quickly, both channels are owned by News Corp. CNN are little better and even the BBC are prone to sensationalise news just to fill programme time.

If you want 20 mins of straight world news then try Euronews, its available on Sky and Virgin.

SKY hype everything up full stop not just the News stuff ... witness the noise and hype over Wigan v Stoke in the Premiershuip - christ, you'd think it was the World Cup Final on every Sunday/Monday night ...

There is not a news channel in the world that exists with the principle purpose of telling you the news.
