Basically yes. Some slight differences to the intake but its basically the same. Also there are a few different head castings for the L92 style, but they are much of a muchness too.
So would AU $3600 be a good price for a brand new L98?. Thinking is, I could buy it for the heads and intake leaving me a short block to sell at £ 1500 ?Island boy HSV said:

Still can't find an engine designation L92 for the heads??? And still not sure about the heads on the L76/98?http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_LS_engine

The L98 is a modified version of the L76 heads all very similar. Is the $3600 landed? If not add the shipping and 20% for VAT and import duties.
That's ex Oz, Dunc. But was thinking of getting a spare L65E box from same source, as I'm caning mine good and proper at the strip now. It's still cheap though, eh? Edited by Island boy HSV on Sunday 12th October 13:41
Compare lets say AU$5300 landed against my best price for heads and intake from our colonial cousins in the US, about $2043US. That's like, giving me a Gen IV short block for about £800??
These seem cheap.. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&am...

I'd like to see what's the best price you guys can come up with to your door.
Steve, give me a bell sometime if you want one of those engines, I know where there's a container load.

Sorry for the Hijack but Gareth i'll pop into Gm parts place in Cannock tommorrow for you. Give me a list of what you need and i'll ask some questions
Hi Bonnie (Mel), I did that already, what I would like to know is exactly what they do have in stock.
I go back through the forum until i find your list and then ask what on the list they have or at least get an ETA. Unless you meen you already have those parts???????? and you just want a stock list of everything they do have
Made a mistake Rich. The heads and intake on this engine are L98 (not L92) but I have been told they are the big flowing type. Apparently the L76 intake is only for DOD engines. This is what I have been told by the supplier. BTW Freight is AU$600 dollars. Shipping time 45 days.
Total price should be with Vodka & Tonic +10% duty, AU$5428. (That's just over £2000 landed at todays dollar exchange rate)
What do you think? Need to know the heads are right because I can make big HP with the right cam

Im pretty sure the heads are L92/L98/L76/LS3 basically all the same thing.
Intake is interesting, I know L76 and LS3 are slightly different intakes. Perhaps the L98 uses the LS3 intake, maybe compare part numbers.
In any case sounds like a good idea. I do think you need a 4" rotating assembly however
"The L76/L92/LS3 cylinder heads use 2.165 in (55.0 mm) intake valves, and 1.59 in (40 mm) exhaust valves. For use with 4 in (100 mm) and larger bores, they allow for over 600 hp (450 kW) naturally aspirated. Improved manufacturing efficiency makes these heads cheaper than the outgoing LS6 heads, and severely undercuts aftermarket heads. The large valves, however, limit maximum rpm - 6000 in the L76 (with AFM), and 6600 in the LS3 (with hollow stem valves)."

Yep, for sure it will be 402. Next quandary is valve weight, means throwing out the intake valves but would need double springs for the cam anyway. Would be great to build an 11 sec 500hp motor for under the price of a SC.Intake is interesting, I know L76 and LS3 are slightly different intakes. Apparently PAC springs are your best bet. You might find some good singles are better.
I predict 450rwhp with a proper intake and exhaust easy.
