Hello, I am looking for some watch advice the budget is modest but I hope some of you will be able to give me some advice…. I am 40 next year and I want a new watch for my birthday to celebrate this milestone. The budget will be up to £350 it must be rugged / tough and I really like the idea of:

1. Solar powered / automatic watches (as long as they are accurate);
2. Synchronisation with the atomic clock; I also would like
3. A reasonable stopwatch as I do use the car on track and it is nice to be able to see how I am doing.

I have seen two watches that take my fancy and appear to fit the bill but would appreciate any comments about these watches or ideas for alternatives.

The first is the Casio G Shock MTG1000-1A (www.gshock.com/products/g-shock_mt-g/ ) which is solar powered so in theory will never need a battery and is synchronised with the atomic clock. BUT it does not appear to be available in the UK and there is no mention of it on the UK site.
There is the GS-1100D-1AER I G-SHOCK which is available in the UK which has the features I want but it doesn’t flick my switch quite as much.

Secondly, I really like the Citizen Promaster SST EcoDrive JW0010-52E which would be ideal but it does not have the atomic clock synchronisation feature of the Skyhawk A-T for example which doesn’t flick my switch and is over budget. BUT I really do like it.
Does anyone know this model? If so, I would be interested to know how accurate it is e.g. doesn’t lose +/- 5seconds a day…

Are there any other watches you would recommend?

A Citizen Eco-drive is still a quartz, which will be accurate enough for all but the most demanding applications.

This website has lots of MTG-1000s for sale, I'm not certain if they are the exact one you want though. http://www.seiyajapan.com/category/4_casio_g_shock...

The same site also has a few Citizen Eco Drives.

I've got a Citizen Promaster from this ebay seller and having just checked, it's gained four seconds in the past two months. Very pleased with it overall.

I had a look at the SeiyaJapan website and they do stock the CASIO MRT G SHOCK watch, but I am a little concerned about buying from abroad as the company is an unknown quantity and there is little I could do if the deal went wrong and of course I would get stung by HM Customs. Does anyone know what rate they charge? I presume it would be a percentage of the purchase cost?

I bought a G-shock off Seiya last month. Have no concern with the level of service. He is well regarded on several forums I've been on.

The down side is that you will more than likely have to pay the duty plus Parcel Force's handling charge.

To give you an idea on an £80 watch I paid £29 in duty and handling. I think it was roughly £15 in tax and £15 for handling.
