Have been thinking about going away for a long weekend with her indoors for a while and leaving the kids at home. Decided next weekend would be a good time so just booked it up with last minute.com, Will be staying in the imperial hotel whilst there.

Does anyone have a list of must do's whilst there, also anyone here stayed at the imperial? It's supposed to be 5 star and looks nice.

regards

Martin

There's lots to do in the way of 'box-ticking' but it's a great place to just hang out, soak up the atmostphere and drink the FANTASTIC beer. beer

I hear the temperature has dropped quite low in the run up to winter, but still take your sunglasses so the missus doesn't spot you ogling the beautiful women that are there in abundance!

I had a couple of mates who went out there who had to break up a fight between two wes. They were fighting over them in the street! wink

The girls are pretty cheap over there, but then again you're taking the missus...oh, well, next time eh?

Went on one of the all day guided tours, they can be a bit hit or miss. We went with the company that start from under the clock tower, can't remember what they were called, but they all carry umbrella's with different symbols on each panel. Our guide was a history student who really knew his stuff, made all the difference.

On the main bridge there is a sculpture insert in one of the pillars with two shiny patches that all the tourists touch for good luck. Apparently this is bks and was started by some students, just so they could have a laugh at all the gullible foreignerssilly. Must admit it's funny to watch the vertically challenged trying to touch both spots at once.

If you can find the Hotel Jasmin, (not that far from centre of town)there is a good pub across the road. Its popular with the locals more than tourists and is hard to get a table in a night, but has a really good atmosphere and the beer is much cheaper than the tourist fly-traps in the town centre.

Don't try to change money as you will get ripped off (readit commission free only applies over a certain amount), also beware of pickpockets.

Overall great place for a few days away, enjoy.

Great location. Just keep a weather eye for pickpockets, especially near the central square when the clock plays (they have cute little dogs with them usually).

And on the Charles Bridge if it's busy.

Other than that it's a lovely City. Even more so during the week when there are fewer pissed-up Brits around.

always diffcult to suggest places, especially when you dont know much about soemone, and all the main tourist bits are great, castle, charles bridge, town square etc but, if want to push boat out have dinner in the Municipal House and/or go for a drink in the American Bar in there, afternoon tea in the Imperial Cafe (I think it will be reopened now, it was closed for refurbishment when we went there earlier this year, or even a night at the opera, plenty of night life but be careful which club/bar(s) you choose.

Tom i see you mention the imperial. That's where we're staying. I heard that it has just been refurbished so should be nice.

Make sure you sample a tram ride in the main city ... no need to go far from the usual tourist haunts - the TV tower is something to behold though ...

Walk up to the castle and then keep walking up. You come to a tower (think mini Eiffel tower) which you can ascend to look out over the entire city.
