The seal on my steering rack has been seeping for a while where the steering column enters into it but tonight I noticed it has got worse.

I'm going to have to tackle this job pretty soon.

Does the rack have to come out to do this or can the section with the seals in it be removed with the rack in place?

From memory i believe it can be done by removing the top part of the rack , the bit with the pipes connected to it

I reckon I'll find out fairly soon.

I'll try to remember to post up how I get on.

I can now say for certain that YES this can be done without removing the rack.

And it can be done by one person on their own.

It's not easy as there is hardly any space to get at the bolts, etc but it can be done.

Hopefully I won't have to do this job again but .....

..... I found some damage on the shaft where the top seal needs to do its work so it may give trouble again.

It looks like it was out before and whoever took it out was not too careful.

The joys of it, eh?
