Thinking of a Noble (IainG)

The temptation is getting the better of me now. Currently own a Clio V6 and a Superlight R, the latter is currently being SVA'd for the road.

Looking at Nobles next yr, i won't be selling the vee to fund it as tbh i love it!

I know Iain G on here had a Vee, a VX and now a noble so i'd be interested to hear his verdict along with the rest of you's.

The car i'd look to buy it the GTO 3R. i can't justify the M400 money... 23yrs old and insurance still isn't great. And the bank are already my best mate! lol.

Car would be bought april time and sold in Oct if anyone is thinking of selling around that time.

Done a good bit of reading, usual faults but what i really feel this forum lacks is the owners praise...I want to see people views of driving them, the excitement etc...

Agree with you. I had a 3R then an M400 I have now. The 3R is more than enough for road driving. Not sure you would see the benefit of an M400 on day to day road driving over a 3R.

Servicing is still an issue in Scotland.

When I got mine, I planned to keep it for a year then move on to something else....that was over 4 years ago now.


Also Antgtv, has gone that route..clio V6, vx220T now Noble.

I've got quite alot of capital tied up at the minute and it's more of a "I need to get this out my system, before i have to be sensible!" (that aside) I would keep it for 6 months.

I don't have a garage, however my neighbour has an M400 and it sits outside all yr round and starts first time every time so i'm not overly fussed.

Tell you what, i'll sell you my M400!

Well the Noble is in a league of its own! It handles like nothing you have ever been in and I thought the VX handled well! Accleration, well theres not an aweful lot on the road that comes close to the sort of performance the Noble has to offer.

You cannot compare a Noble with a Vee (epecially if its a Mk1). You couldn't really push on with confidence in it and it wasn't really that quick. On the plus side I loved the looks of the vee and the sound of that v6.

Anyway back to the Noble, bad bits, when something breaks be prepared for a big bill. At the end of the day its a car with supercar performance without supercar money and as such needs to be looked after. I've spent A LOT of money on mine this year.

What sort of things have gone wrong on yours? - And also being a scotsman where did you take it to have the issues sorted.

Hi Ali

Iv had my M400 a month, so far i've had to take off a turbo to remove the manifold and have it welded, then the studs on the exhaust housing sheared due to heat build-up from running lean, Upgraded the fuel pump and wiring, removed the turbo's to have all the old studs drilled out and re-tapped then fitted new gaskets and put it back together.

Im offshore now but when im back i need to figure out why its stuttering while on boost.

Im getting very annoyed with it, but when it works its the best thing iv ever driven/been in handling and power wise. / i'll put it down to teething problems and hope its just a bad spell.

So far iv done it all myself as theres no dealers near aberdeen and i dont trust many local places.

Yeah thats me, thought I recognised the name from somewhere.

Servicing, i take it to Hexham near Newcastle as I like to keep the dealer stamp. I have heard JD motors out at Insch are good and have serviced a few guys cars on here.

This year, new front & rear pads, new speed sensor, 2 new turbo's, new radiator and a service.

Graeme, i was spking to you once in Pearl lounge about the TVR, year or so ago! - You know Justin with the T350...i beleive. (we're off to the ring this weekend)

Who are you insuring with our of curiousity, i've left some details with A plan and seein what they come bak with.

For reference on the Vee i'm 704£ on the 172 i'm an additional 208 on that policy (Multicar) And on the Superlight i'm 128 on the garage policy!

Not much really i'm thinking the quote on the noble may be more!!! LOL

I honestly can't remember that, i was probably in a fair old state, usually am.

Yeh iv spoke to Justin through email a few times, You will enjoy the ring, i went this time last year in the T350 but it was cold,wet and foggy, hope you have more luck.

Id expect insurance for the Noble will be at least double what your paying. worth it though.

I got a shock with my insurance quote on the Noble, being 23 as well, but found a very good company.

Start with simple things first - vacuum hoses; check plug gaps and/or get new plugs.
If it only occurs when the car is heat-soaked check out the low pressure fuel hose between filter and pump. It can become floppy when v hot and close under max boost conditions giving the symptoms of stuttering/cutting out. Replacing this piece of hose with high pressure internally braided hose (or even with a solid connection as per peterUK) and problem will disappear.
