get one with the 1.25 zetec engine, pretty nippy and low insurance.

i will second that! I had the 1.25 zetec engine in my mk3 fiesta, which was my first car, great little engine, realy rev-happy, i used to love throwing it around! good fuel economy to if you keep the revs down a bit. had loads of laughs with mine! definatly the model to go for, leave the 1.3 well alone! its a lot older lump and is slower than the 1.25 zetec. also most of the 1.0/1.1's are a tappety and horrible!

Ether get the 1.25 zetec engined fiesta or a 1.2 16v punto, the punto's have a brilliant chassis, they handle so well! and are reliable if you look after them.

so if i wanted fun i would go for the punto ether 1.2 8v (more torque-y) or 16v (more bhp and free reving)

But for a compromise of being bomb proof and a good rev-happy lump i would go for the 1.25 zetec engined (zetec isnt the spec level, you can get the zetec engine in the LX model upwards i believe?) mk3 fiesta.

It would be difficult to find a good, cheap one, but a mk1 Fiesta Supersport would be super cool. Classic insurance too. (1.3)

TBH, the 205 xs is a great suggestion. Or a Roland Garros which has the same engine. A friend has one in very good nick, its a lovely little car.

dont bother with the 'crossflow' engined fiesta's, you'll be better off with a MK4 1.25 Zetec, they can take a thrashing and they'll return good economy.

The crossflow engine in a fiesta is the Valencia deritive of the kent engine, downtuned and optimised for EU regulations, not fun. If you want proper crossflow fun drop a 1600GT lump in an anglia wink
