Fuel Hose Diameter?

I have had to replace the fuel hose at the rear of my S3 - the one that connects the tank to the fuel pump.

Having purchased a new 1/2 inch internal diameter hose - same as the old one - it does not want to go back on. Despite many attempts with hot water, etc. it is being a royal pain in the a**e

I have come across a 5/8 inch internal diameter fuel hose.

Presuming this will be easier to fit (as slightly larger) can anyone advise whether this is OK or will it cause problems that I have not thought of??

What diameter is the spigot that you are trying to fit it to? You should never use a hose that is bigger than the spigot because it is difficult to get a reliable seal without tension on the hose. Fitting a hose that is too small is better than too big, as long as you do not have to strain the hose too much to get it on.

Not sure what size spigot is on - just went off the existing hose size...that said the original hose had split where it was attached to the fuel pump spigot - could it have been too small at 1/2 inch???

I will do some measuring this weekend.

Jaye what hose are you using, same as original ie steel reinforced?

Yep - the 1/2 inch one is exactly the same as the old one & the new one is just a 5/8 inch version fuel hose. Both, as far as I am aware, are reinforced and suitable for unleaded fuel.

Its just when I did my rebuild I got my 1/2" hose from Demon Tweeks - it is external fuel hose but only has 'fabric' covering. Its extremely flexible compared to the OE hose and can be routed well away from driveshaft. A bit of washing up liquid in the end and it slips on with a lot less hassle,

it is sold by the metre - make sure you get enough to reroute if you want to.
