HID Upgardes

Ive now had a couple of different HID kits installed on my T350C and both of them seem to have been very unreliable and not always sparking up first time - which can be a real problem now the nights are getting darker!

I have seen this kit from hids4u ( http://www.hids4u.co.uk/store/product.php?producti... and wondered if anyone had fitted this specific kit to TVR's and had experienced any problems?

The problem must be something to do with the ECU not liking the current draw or something as it is quite random when they dont work but usually on hot restart or when there has been other current draws (eg.. fans, aurcon etc..)

The only other thing I am gonna check is the earth.

Any other ideas or experiences?

My ones seem fine, not those ones you have, but apparently it helps if you turn them on at a certain time, before firing the engine up..

Hi Stu I purchased a pair of these from HID4U 8 weeks ago made no diffrence at all have you tried putting your lights on before starting the car? (before turning the key)

Unfortunately whatever combination of things I did on startup had no effect! I purposely used to turn them on before starting the engine and sometimes they would spark, other times not. Even if they did spark, then when I cranked the engine they would 9/10 times then go off and id be stuck with just sidelights.

Im gonna check the ground to make sure its good as that could be part of the problem potentially.

Otherwise Im pretty stuck - I was considering the most expensive ones from Hids4U as they are apparently better?????????? and cause less issues with ECU's.

Yes I Purchased the same ballast which are not as nosie when starting up but made no diffrence to mine

Hi Chaps,
Just put a set of HID in my Tamora this evening.
Although I will have to tidy the wiring as the kit was not ideal for a TVR there are no issues with firing and are actually near as damnit spot on aim wise.
I have however two problems.
1st they would blow a 10 amp fuse although rated at 3.5 amp each so have dropped a 15 amp fuse in and all appears ok so far.
2nd my analogue dash lights go out when I turn them on. All other dash lighting and digital gauges work ok so can still read MPH etc

I don't know the kits but are the lights powered from the original wiring? If they are the current drawn could be the problem and putting then on first before anything else, would suggest this. As with other high current start up devices a relay fired by the original wiring with a direct connection to the battery pos and neg would be better.
As I said I don't know what the kit contains but was thinking of some sort of upgrade for my lights.

Hey..

I bought a set from www.xenon.co.uk and they have been perfect, no issues at all.

The only problem I do have (which a lot of people suffer from), you need to turn on the lights first before starting the car if you don't want the little green surround LEDs on the dash to stop working.

Im guessing my fault must be something else (perhaps earthing point...) as no-one else seems to have any problems with them not firing.

Where did you have your ballasts fitted- if they are somewhere were they can get wet (even damp from condensation now with temperatures falling) it might explain your problem- make sure they are absolutely drie and well vented...

I had the ballasts fitted well inside the cubby holes so very little damp could get in.

However I may have found the problem (well, TrackVRoad have...) Whilst it was in getting a clutch done they checked one of the circuit boards to the fuse box (I think) and it had a couple of dodgy connectors which they replaced and all appears fine now - yey.

Im still gonna stick with the standards for now though so i've got a set of H7 HID's 6000k bulbs going spare if anyone wants an upgrade - drop me a PM.
