Armstrongs Bike
Discussion
I had a ride on one of Lance Armstrongs old Bikes (4 years old). It was borrowed by my friend who owns a bike shop and was lent it for a race he had entered.
I have not owned a racer since I was 14 and I was warned that it a little heavier than most new bikes - rubbish, this thing was so light! I was surprised how long the bike was.
After being in the same saddle as Lance, gripped the same handlebars, I am waiting for some of his magic to decend upon my riding - still waiting....

6.8Kg is the UCI minimum.
There are plenty of bikes under 5Kg, but they aren't cheap, nor are they legal for UCI sanctioned racing. So they fill the seat tube with ballast to make it up.
Don't forget, adding 2 full water bottles and a saddle/tube bag with energy bars and spare tube etc adds another 1 or 2Kg.

What they actually do is.......you fill the frame with water, a little over one and a half litres down the seat tube for the UCI suit to weigh in at 6.8kgs.The cable guide at the base of the frame is covering the hole at the bottom. The first time you hit the left shift lever it starts the drip and within about an hour your bike is at a more realistic climbing weight of 5kgs!
A good example was this years tour had a scott addict ltd with obermayer lightweights in it and with sram red.5.4kgs, the scales did'nt fib.
