Sad news from the AGM.

The format and content of Sprint as we now know and love it is largely down to Tony.

His superb photographs and informative, interesting text will be missed by us all.

This is sad news - met Tony at Back Home and have always been impressed with what he has achieved with Sprint.

Are you able to tell us the reason for his departure?

The news of Tony Connor's impending departure as Editor of Sprint is sad news indeed. It has been a real pleasure dealing with Tony and watching SPRINT steadily improve into the top quailty publication it is today.
His input, photos, and leadership as editor will be sorely missed and I wish him all the best.

Agreed 100%

It is really sad that Tony has decided to stand down.

I think just sheer overload took it's toll.

Sprint really is, at the moment, a 'one man band' when it comes to putting it together.

Whilst the 'Where's my Sprint' threads were fun for us and I'm sure he sometimes saw them that way, Tony was under a lot of pressure to get the magazine out on time and I know that comments comparing EVO to Sprint at one point were not appreciated.
After all, one look at the EVO editorial page and the amount of contributors and staff says it all.

Tony has, for most of the last two years, put Sprint together on his own and I think that he has every right to be very proud of the magazines he has produced.

The TVRcc has one of the best Club magazines of any car club.
It is a focal point of the club and a great medium for communication between Committee, ROs and members.

I think, in the future it will become an even more important tool for communication along with our TVRcc website.

I think Tony has done an amazing job and to top it all, he's a really nice guy. (Put up with me and that says a lot!!!!)

I will be REALLY sad to see Tony leave and wish him well in his retirement.

(All comments my own view and IMHO.)

Any ideas what affect this will have to the mag?

Sad news indeed - Sprint is an excellent part of being in the TVRCC.

I hope it continues to be so.

In terms of the Mag people are needed to take his place. Now is the time to make your contribution! A group of us, myself included, are getting together to take the website to the next level, the same needs to be done with Sprint. Don't forget this is an opportunity just as much as it is an issue.

If you think you can help in any way, please get in touch with the committee. If you were thinking of helping out as deputy editor, then no reason to stop because Tony is gone, we need you all the more. Tony set a high standard, but there's no reason why we can't continue performing at this level.

Thanks all,

Steve (Surrey RO)

Steve is right....it could be a team that takes over.

What is needed is someone with a good knowledge of TVRs, can take pictures and write feature issues.
Tony used to attend all the major events too, which is the reason that Sprint sometimes had to go out late!!!!! Can't be in two places at once!!!!

There must be someone amongst the 7000 membership who can perhaps take on this role.

I am sure that Tony would be very keen to assist whoever takes on the Editor position.
We might even be able to persuade him to take on the Deputy Editor role.

As Steve says...it could be a small team.

I had my reservations when Tony took over from Ralph
but I must take my hat off to him - he did a fine job.

My main cause for concern was that making the magazine that much more 'professional' would take a team and would be too much for one man... he has done a brilliant job and did it for longer than anyone would have thought - if you read this Tony - well done !

Enjoy the retirement - gone but not forgotten !!

I'm sure that the mag will continue - there is always a way once a standard has been set.

Tony has done a superb job with Sprint and always put up with my late articles etc.

I hope the club/or the TVR part of Pistonheads could show their appreciation some how for his effort since taking over as editor.

The news of Tony's retirement obviously came as a great shock to us all at the AGM on Saturday and clearly now the first priority of the newly elected Committee is to ensure that the quality and regularity of Sprint is unaffected.

I am pleased to say that much discussion took place on Saturday both before and after the AGM and ROs' meetings and that our new Chairman has already had a number of offers of support to ensure that this critical service is maintained uninterrupted. Clearly it would be inappropropriate in this forum for me to give any more details of this at present and I trust that members will understand. I can, however, give all Club members the assurance that we are all working hard to make sure that Sprint, in the same quality that you are receiving now, continues to drop through your letterboxes in the future. There will be no drop in service to our members.

I should like to finish by adding my thanks to Tony for all of his hard work over the past two years. Having done the job myself, I know how much effort goes into editing the magazine and I feel sure that his efforts will not go unrewarded by the Club.

Ralph,
I wish us all luck in achieving this. As someone who has taken 14000 pictures in the last 18 months, I hope I'm in a reasonable position to offer the opinion that Tony was/is a top snapper and finding a replacement with such a strong TVR bias is going to be a serious challenge. Throw in his writing abilities as well and.............

Only just found out Tony was leaving - Doh! I think I need to keep my ear closer to the ground (or my eyes closer to Pistonheads!!)

I would like to add my thanks to Tony for encouraging me to get going with Morgan's Mutterings, and for all his efforts with Sprint.

He will be a hard act to follow.

I'll continue writing M's Mutterings - you don't get rid of me that easily - hopefully everyone else will also continue writing loads of articles - the more we write as members/drivers, the less the new editorial team have to write, and the wider views and comments are kept in the mag. This way we will all help ensure that Sprint continues to be the best car club mag in the business.

Enjoy your rest Tony - you deserve it.
