Hi, I need my sierra driveshafts lengthening and balancing but can't find anyone who can do it. I live in South yorkshire and work in North yorkshire so anywhere in yorkshire would be good. I tried dunning and fairbank but they only do propshafts.

Suggestions please.

thanks.

Can you extend half shafts? They're fragile enough to start with. I suspect you might find it's more practical to get some new ones made the right length.

GKN have (had?) a driveline division that do (used to do?) this sort of thing.

I may be wrong but I think you will find cut and welded driveshafts fail SVA now

I tried drivelink on the number above and they do almost F1 spec things in super high tensile stuff that are apparently over 3 times stronger than the ones I have off the cossie....but at £400 per shaft (including new joints etc), then I heard about Geoff Berrisford Engineering who are on 01270 841081, Geoff seems to make loads of driveshafts for loads of applications and is highly respected in the autograss world, he quoted me £160 per shaft and it's down to me wether I need new joints.

While you're there, think about circlip grooves. All the half shaft failures I've had have been at the inner circlip groove. The current ones have a shoulder forged on instead of the circlip which removes the potential weak point.

Geoff Berrisford of GB Engineering is frequently recommended by happy customers on Locostbuilders. He specialises in custom parts for autograss cars, but will make a driveshaft to any spec. for a reasonable price.

You can get driveshafts cut'n'shut but they can and do fail. I don't know about the SVA situation but that's another factor. I was recommended Jonny Weston-Taylor at Stanwood Performance Engines, he's fabricated driveshafts for guys in RGB for reasonable money and based in Doncaster too. In the end I didn't go there as my shafts were already custom made and I was able to get them re-machined.

These people were spoken about on the Stratos' forum recently.

Track and rally performance driveshafts

01268 206100

or on the www.

I haven't dealt with them.

Here's the thread:

ETA: Ah, you've already mentioned them yourself.
