7 Series 06 Plate

Hi,
I'm thinking about buying an 06 plate 750 with 26k miles for about £22,000. I have heard that this model of 7 series have a reputation for electrical problems - can anyone confirm or deny the extent of such problems?
As I'll probably not be buying from a BMW dealer then I'll only have a few months left of BMW warranty. Does anyone have any idea of the costs involved for extending the warranty with BMW? I'd also be interested to hear of any recommended alteratives to the BMW warranty.

My parents run a garage, one customer bought a, IIRC '52 or '53 plate 735i. Airbag warning light was on and we couldn't fix it. BMW found it to be a broken wire in the rear door. Cost £14 for the wire and a bit over £500 for the labour to fix it.
Had been thinking of buying one until I saw that bill......
That and the sub-25mpg for a car that didn't even go very well.
This said, it'd be madness to get something like this without being expected to pay those sorts of bills at least sometimes. Even a lexus probably a) isn't necessarily as reliable as you might believe and b) will cost packets to fix. It just goes with the territory doesn't it. There does seem to be a lot of computery in this model of 7 though. Mercedes learnt their lesson with the early '90s S-class in the "too many computers spoil the broth" stakes, so perhaps the W220 which competed with this 7 series would be a better bet. Don't like it as much meself yet, it does have a tried & tested Merc feel within.

When the new 7 came out they were plagued with electrical problems. BMW ended up giving quite a few people their money back.
An 06 one should have far less problems than the early ones. Like others said you should still be prepared for service bills that reflect it was a £60k car 2 years ago.
Also the 730d can be had for similar money. If you havent driven either I would look at the diesel. The torque isnt much different to the V8 but obviously fuel consumption will be much better.

A guy I do business with got one afew months ago for £289 a month on contract hire.
