I need to give me helmet a good polish (as it were!) as its a right mess from bugs and crap.
What do people recommend to use? Am I right thinking there are some household stuff I should avoid?!
Avoid anything with ammonia in it. get that down your japs eye and you''ll know it.What do people recommend to use? Am I right thinking there are some household stuff I should avoid?!

At most use some soapy water and a cloth, but some wet kitchen towel draped over it for a few mins should be enough to soften up the bugs before wiping off.
I make a habit of wiping my lid with a wet cloth then drying it as soon as I come in from a ride - saves a lot of hassle and if I want to go for a ride, I know that all my kits prepped before I go.

As above, leave some damp kitchen towel on it then wipe the bugs off with ease!!!!!!!!I make a habit of wiping my lid with a wet cloth then drying it as soon as I come in from a ride - saves a lot of hassle and if I want to go for a ride, I know that all my kits prepped before I go.
Damp cloth laid over it is good, as said, for getting the stubborn dehydrated bugs off the helmet. A good wash inside and out with baby shampoo once or twice a year keeps the lining nice and fresh (and seems to plump up compressed inners nicely).
Then I may, possibly, under duress, admit to a couple of coats of Zymol over the top of a good HDCleanse. Dammit, its in the cupboard anyway

I use a very mild soap and water solution and a microfibre cloth to clean my lid. For the final touch, Purple Helmet Polish is brilliant. Fantastic on the bikes plastics too!
