Re-Plaster or Polycell SmoothOver......
Discussion
Anyone used it? (Polycell SmoothOver that is)
My walls and ceilings are for want of a better word, bodged and i want to fix them and make them smooth again.
Have thought about replastering them, but then I saw this:
http://www.diytools.co.uk/diy/Main/sp-2-4784-61001...
on an advert it looks easy. So is it any good and is it worth a go or should i just go for the re-plaster instead?

I've used it to fill in small gaps, but wouldnt want to do a wall with it. My stairway needs skimming and I'd rather get a plasterer in (no radio) to do it than use the smoothover stuff
It's a bit like that Ronseal once over for ences. Adverts make it look easy, turns out it's not all that
Give it a go but dont expect miracles

I have to admit I haven't tried it but I doubt it would be much fun to apply. The difficult part of plastering is applying and smoothing - and you'd still have to do that regardless of whether you're applying plaster or 'Smoothover'.
I'm all for DIY, but with something like that, you could easily end up with a worse surface than you have already. At which point you either do endless sanding or end up paying a plasterer to fix it.
Beside which, it seems pretty pricey - depending on the size of the wall/ceiling, it may not cost that much more to get a plasterer to skim it.

How much do plasters cost to do a whole 2 bed flat?
How much plaster does it take to do a whole wall? There seems to be 5 litres of stuff in the smoothover stuff, would that be enough for a room?
Was thinking of doinging it myself simply down to the fact that i can just move the furniture out of the way rather than clear the whole room, which aint easy when actually living in the flat.

Just plaster your flat the old fashioned way. I've been plastering a house for the last two days. Get on with it you lazy bugger. My walls and ceilings are for want of a better word, bodged and i want to fix them and make them smooth again.

Sorry needed to vent. If you can pay for it, go that route
Tired it, to cover a small transition between different areas of plaster. Crap really. You just spread it over with the smoothing tool, and as with plaster it relies on you to spread it smoothly to get a decent finish. Sure you can sand it easily, but you can do that with plaster if you HAVE too. Just get it skimmed. Only advantage is you don't have to naff around with PVA'ing the wall before as with plaster, and the plaster soaking up all the paint when you come to paint it.

I'd recommend B&Q Lightweight Plaster (big bucket-thing). It's not actually plaster but is extremely easy to use, sticks well, dries quickly and sands easily too. Brilliant
whats B&Q Lightweight Plaster?
I cant find it on their site.
Is it easier than normal plastering?
Is it the same as smoothover?

If you want a good finish, only way to go is spread it.

Just had the lounge 4 walls done...2 blokes, 1 day and £300.
Ceiling was 1 bloke, 3/4 day, £150.
Its nice to have proper flat clean walls now.
You dont notice how flat until you paint them though.
Be warned though - Feck me do they make a mess !!!!
That would mean it would cost me in excess of 2.5k for the whole flat.... err no..Ceiling was 1 bloke, 3/4 day, £150.

Those walls could have been 25 foot long x 8 foot high, or they could have been 10 foot long x 8 foot high.
