Firstly , the gearbox was replaced by vauxhall under warranty on my 04 5.7vxr in late 05. Will this be a stronger box or can I expect this to also fail prematurely. Secondly , my brake discs and pads were also replaced in 06 under warranty. Will the new ones also fail early or did GM make any efforts to improve later ones, thanks Al.

How many miles has it done? Mine is on 30k or so and still with original bits, no real problems at all. Having said that it's now out of warranty so knowing my luck I'm expecting it to all fall to bits within 6 months rolleyes

Item failure out of warranty provides excellent justification for performance upgrades and should be welcomed smile
At least it means you dont throw good stock stuff away!

Great, but I dont really want to upgrade my gearbox, you can't hear it see it or feel it except for when it all goes wrong.

Yeah the boxes are strong, its usually just the synchro's and shift pads that go bad. They can both be replaced with better versions if required. These boxes can take 1000bhp and US firms will supply one to that spec.

...and the reverse lockout solenoid can fail which means you cannot get reverse (or sometimes other gears); my 'box suffered this and was replaced under warranty.
