As an X TVR owner I can honestly say that out of the 16 cars of various makes I have owned to date that TVR are by far THE WORST BUILT CAR I have ever owned, my Tuscan cost me a packet and it amazes me how some of you people on here actually advise people to buy one ????, apart from the TVR brand being in the hands of god knows who now, very little parts supply chain in place, no manufacturer assistance there is the PROVEN track record of dodgy wiring, leaking roofs and engines that need rebuilding after 30,000k, faulty window solenoids, flat battery problems and so on and so on and so on, my god they are CRAP.

Trust me, any buyers out there thinking of a TVR, stop now, it will cost you ££££Thousands, it will leak, break down, and be a huge dissapointment and and expensive learning curve, Porsche build quality blows TVR into its inneviatible liquidation forever, Buy a Mercedes, or anything but not a TVR.

If Mercedes build quality is high on the scale then TVR and scraping the bottom, in fact TVR and Mercedes should not even be mentioned in the same sentence.

I understand the only replies to this thread will be biased TVR owners but I bet there are hundreds of us X TVR owners not on here who were bloody glad to see the back of the things...

Funny how some avoid the truth, I am guessing your denial is born fromn the fact you own one of these terrible cars ?

Thought so.

Jesus - so you bought a bad one. Probably didn't do your research or homework!
They're a hand built car, how can you expect build quality to be up to Porsche standards? There are plenty of so called prestige marques I wouldn't touch due to reliability problems (Mercedes being one of them) Maintain a TVR properly and it will be relatively trouble free!

How about you feck off and take your gripes elsewhere? Rather than join a forum for the sole reason to sg off the cars!!!

TVR Chimaera has been my dream car since 1993. I purchased one 3 years ago and had lots of problems with it but now its getting too old so I'm getting rid of it on Saturday. I can honestly say I wont be sad to see it go. I'm getting a Tuscan.

It appears you are quite upset.

However I suspect a more structured complaint would see less hostility, such as exactly the car you purchase and the problems you faced and how they where not resolved or at what cost.

People know TVR's are hand built and that over the years they have suffered the quirks and reliability issues all small hand built car makers face. And yes with TVR own engine's there has been much discussion on reliability and durability.

But on the flip side, there are many many happy owners of TVR's with a huge following and fan club. Many used regularly or even daily.

And no, I'm not a TVR owner either tongue out

Also it's worth noting, other people have issues with other car makers. Was it not Jeremy Clarkson who cited his Mercedes SL55 AMG as being very unreliable? Not too mention 5th gear and many public consumer surveys (JD Power/TG) all citing reliability issues with Mercedes?

Just trying to help and keep it more balanced smile

Based on the info supplied its far more comlpex than that. They are not saying they hate TVR for no reason, they are saying they really liked them, bought one and the experience of doing so has resulted in them hating it.

As responsible owners you guys should offer help and support not sg the fellow off because he had a bad experience.

You're absolutely right.

However, A one month, 7 post member whose other 6 posts have been 'TVRs are st' most probably is trolling.

OP - If you are for real, sorry to hear you've had such a bad deal with your motor. Hand built sportscars do tend to be fragile things. Not excusing some of the building practices mind you - electrical connectors on my own car spring to mind. However, if you bought a Tiv expecting to run it 10k a year on one service with no ongoing maintenance and the reliability of a Honda you might be expecting too much?

I've got a 1990 TVR S2, 77000 miles, which is my 4th TVR
A very good mate of mine has just got a 1990 Porsche 911, 76000 miles, with a targa top, to be used as a toy and a "semi" everyday car.

The porker actually feels more solid than my everyday 5 year old VW Golf, the build quality of it is amazing, it's got 250 bhp compared to the S2's 170 bhp. I really enjoyed driving the porker.

However.....

I prefer the sound, driving excitement, responsiveness, roof off driving experience etc etc of my TVR and the feeling I get from having something a bit different cos you don't see many others around.

Oh, and did I mention that you can get a good S for £5-6k, whereas my mates porsche cost £13k.......? TVR's have the looks, power, handling etc so to be that much cheaper than Porsche they must cut something and it is widely known that it's build quality I'm afraid. You pays your money and you takes your choice wink

To the OP, if you want all of the characteristics of a TVR with Porsche build quality then be prepared to spend Porsche kinda money!!
