Website advertising sales... where to start?
Discussion
Hi!
I've just launched (litereally this weeek) a new website dedicated to vans and commercial vehicles to compliment our existing finacne and car brokerage site.
The ethos of the new site follows very much the "pile 'em high and sell 'em cheap" principle. I would like to sell a little advertising space on the site (just a few, I don't want it swamped with ads that'll detract from the idea of the website), but have no idea of where to start.
Does anyone in here have a clue? Or, would anyone in here be interested in taking the project on a commission basis?
I'm open to any and all ideas.
Cheers
Justin

Hi Chap,
Unless you have a tremendous amount of unique visitors your site will be worthless to advertisers and, moreover, you, as you'll get paid per thousand impressions or click throughs (measured in pence).
If you want to make a few pennies go for Google Advertsing and you'll make a couple of quid a month (although IMHO it makes sites look a bit cheap).
If you're interested in SEO or PPC advertising for your site I can help £500-£800/mth.
Best,
Don

Adsense is not worth the bother and I would agree it looks crap.Unless you have a tremendous amount of unique visitors your site will be worthless to advertisers and, moreover, you, as you'll get paid per thousand impressions or click throughs (measured in pence).

Once you start getting over 1000 uniques a day of targeted traffic you can start charging for adverts at the lower end of the scale, ideally looking 10,000+ to start getting proper wonga.
It could be worth just looking at associated products that you could sell via affiliate marketing as its better to get one £50 kick back for flogging van insurance than 2p from google on a similar click

I know a certain popular motoring website can charge anything up to £15cpm so if you're getting 1000 unique visitors each drawing an average of 8 pages that's 8000 pages / day...
Valuing potential revenues based on page impressions can be very misleading.
The value of a page is simply determined by whether you've got businesses that want to be associated with your site.
Has anyone asked to advertise on your site...? That's a good indicator of demand. Creating demand and getting those first few advertisers is the really tricky bit.
