Following on from the thread about anoying things peoples OH's do. One of them was to leave a little bit of tea in the bottom of the cup.

Was just wondering as a collective how many PHers do this. Personally I do I'm not sure why I just do...

It really depends, I voted yes because sometimes I do, but thats just if I have been drinking it outside for example and it has got cold, there is nothing worse than a mouthfull of cold tea. Most of the time I finish it. But not always. However if I'm outside and have left a bit then i will pour it out somewhere before going back inside. Anyhoo.

I leave just a tiny bit, in case of any stray tea leaves.

My thread has arrived!

Yes I do - partly because a tea bag always "leaks" a few grounds, and partly because our water is so hideously hard that there is always some limescale that escapes the filtered kettle. (Within 2 days of buying the new kettle the bottom of it was covered in limescale mad )

PS - thanks for the thread, just off to make another brew biggrin

No, if I didn't want a full cup, I wouldn't fill in the first place!

work colleague leaves the bottom HALF of every coffee - but wants a fresh one if it's being made.

I made him half a cup the other day, he left all of it confused

My mum used to make tea without teabags or strainer, so I learned at a very young age not to drink the last bit.

Even with now using teabags and filtered coffee, I still don't drink the last 1/2" or so.

I make tea using loose leaf tea, so always leave 1/4" at the bottom of the mug

Agreed, this is my reason also for leaving a tiny bit.

No, not ever, she does though. But what I cannot work out is why folk leave a little bit of beer in the glass.......

Plus the scenario where it hasn't been stirred properly so the last little bit is 50% sugar.

Next time you have a pint when you get halfway through, have a good look at the bottom of it and witness the floaties, enjoy.

Exactly what my answer. Goes back to the pre-teabag era.

I never leave a little bit in the bottom of a cup of tea or coffee. The flavour and the sugar sinks to the bottom so the bottom must therefore be the best part!

I also dispose of the little bit of tea at the top when i'm at work. Obviously, not when i'm a guest, as that would be rude.
