How negotiable are they? Thinking I need an e60 and so I can think of several possibilities (basically my Boxster S plus £2-4k ish):
(1) depends on the dealer
(2) they don't negotiate, but there receptionists are pretty and the cars shiny
(3) depends on the car, big petrol = buyers market, anything diesel = pay the screen price or get lost
(4) buyers market, ask them to bend over

I got my last one down from £28950 to £25k and that January when things weren't so bad.

Mnaaged to get the 335i down from £36k to £32k last year when they had only just come out.

Right now offer really low and do that before you mentin a part ex.

We got £250 (!) plus 12 months tax off a £37K E93. Pretty crap but then again they had just reduced the sticker price by £3K from the previous week.

If I was a better negotiator and was willing to take the risk that car wouldn't be snapped up by someone else in the mean time I reckon we could have gotten another 2K off...

They wont want your porsche, so they will be trying to have it underwritten elsewhere. I sold my last two trade ins directly to dealers, then went elsewhere and bought the car i wanted. On the first trade in i got £4000 more elsewhere than i was getting from the dealer, and on the second one £1000 more. It may be worth doing that with your car, ie, find nearby specialists and approach them direct.

When i bought the 535d new last year i got £4000 off, the x5 £4500 (when they were allegedly in high demand and no discounts)

My current 535d is an 05 that i bought in june. It was already discounted back by £2000 and i got a further £2000 just by asking. Interestingly i looked at a 335d with another dealer, again the car was discounted back already by £2000 but they wouldnt budge by any more than another £500.

I think summarising

(a) it depends on the dealer
(b) it depends on the car
(c) it depends how long they've had the car
(d) it depends on how much it cost them in the first place.

BUT without doubt, go in, let them know (if) you're ready to buy there and then, negotiate hard and if the prices dont drop, try another dealer.

DO however watch the prices across all similar AUC cars - they can vary by thousands - no point in getting £2000 off a car that was £4000 more expensive than a similar one on AUC in the first place...

I bought an AUC '02 330d Sport auto a couple of weeks ago. It was already at a very similar price to 'private' sales (within a couple of hundred squid). I got a full current market value on my p/ex (NOT trade in value), years warranty and BMW emergency thingy.

I told them my bottom line and left it with them after they gave me a derisory p/ex value. Three days later I got a call upping the p/ex value by £1000 - I still declined but said if they met 'my' figure I'd leave a deposit over the phone. He phoned back an hour later and did the deal!

Picked the car up last week and they'd even carried out an Insp service even though it wasn't due for another 5k - bonus!

Now, I know I was buying at the bottom end of thier stock (value wise)and it may of helped that I traded in a BMW but I think it does show they're willing to deal.

A Convertible M3 for 37K - shurely not....<goes to have a look>...nothing on an 08 with less than 10K miles on there at the moment.

We went for a reasonably high spec 08 E93 330i auto - best balance between performance and running costs for us.

That's the experience I'd like to have! Shame I have pork to trade in and not BM.

I presume the best approach is to go for a car they have in stock, rather than have them get one in?

Yes, ideally one they've been sweating on for a while

I wouldnt be afraid to travel for the car. You could save ££££'s just by checking BMWs UK site for the car / spec you want.

agree with most of above...

maybe they might bite harder with finance rather than cash? do your sums though.

but play one of against other if there is a choice on the AUC site works quite well.

Oddly, when I looked at a 530d MSport Touring at Rydale in Birmingham a few weeks ago, they showed me alternatives in their group which weren't on the AUC website. Why would that be?
