...that series of documentaries on telly a few years back covering a season with Senna/McLaren.
I remember an episode where Senna was complaining about the car's engine having a flat-spot at 10,000rpm. The engineers showed him the telemetry which suggested nothing was wrong. Senna took the car out again but came back in continuing to complain. IIRC Senna then refused to drive the car until the problem was resolved. The engineers had to take apart the engine and on examination, one of the cams was out of alignment or something, proving what Senna had been saying...
Would love to see this stuff again.

Sadly, I don't think it has ever been made available. I have a set, but not the facilities to copy it (Oh Apple, why do you make computers that last so long?)
There was a similar story about Lauda at Ferrari. He complained that the car didn't feel right, but couldn't finger exactly what it was. They worked through everything - springs, dampers, suspension and engine mounts. The headrest was not fitted correctly.

There was also another, even older, series I can't recall the name of but which followed the Haas Lola Ford F1 team when they were building a V6 turbo engine and Patrick Tambay was driving the cars. Bits of them testing the cars at Boreham, etc.
Seem to recall it being quite technical at times in terms of explanations about how to make a V6 turbo a) work and b) last more than a few laps.
