Shocker for anyone who thought their personal finances were a safely guarded secret...

As RBS Coutts is now majority owned by the British Government doubtless they will appoint directors and officers to the UK government's new asset. Those directors will see the records and get to know the names of the client's of RBS Coutts, worldwide .

Many 'foreigners' to and residents of the UK ( particularly those who are UK Non doms ) will now have to contend with the UK government having access to details of their non resident assets.

All those who have assets with Coutts in Switzerland that they considered secure and secret will have to think again. Gordo and his pals at the inland revenue must be licking their lips!

rbs will only ever be majority owned by the government if they dont manage a sucessful share issuance to the current share holders, as in the minimum bid is backed by the uk govt.

get your facts right before posting crap which affects other people.

I would very much doubt in the current climate that the share issue will be taken up by the shareholders.

Hah hah. Only in Liechtenstein, and then the UK gov't will still bribe a corrupt banker to get your details.

DPA can be subverted for purposes of law enforcement, tax evasion is against the law, I'll let someone else work out what that adds up to. Not to mention the anti-terrorism laws which can be made to suit any purpose (just ask Iceland)

Surely it's only a Swiss "Private Bank" enshrined in law if the bank only has branches in Switzerland?

If you have an account like that, I'd guess you would know it!
