If people who work in banks knew what was happening we wouldn't be in this st right now.

Fill the car with bottled water and head for the hills, it's the only solution.

The only changes I've experienced is that last week my mortgage payments went down by £30. Terrifying stuff.

I bet said same friends stockpiled food in fear of the millenium bug, or other such twaddle.

Anything else you've heard from your mates old man second cousin (twice removed) ex-wife's tennis partner's dog-walkers gardner's mate?

I don't know the details, but I do know that the world's population is going up and the area that grows food is going down... extend the lines until they cross.

In a thousand years time, p'haps, with no advances in agriculture, food production etc, etc nor controls upon what gets used as "urban" land and what gets used for agriculture.

As it currently stands there's more than enough (farmed) land with soils of sufficient quality to sustatain the worlds current population. This ignores the vast swathes of land that are currently unused or used so inefficiently so as to be of little worth, the inefficiency of current policy/systems (CAP, etc).

Current high prices have come through an unfortunate combination of (weather) events in the major food-production areas (Australia, etc). These things happen. Always have done, always will do.

It's totally impossible for there to be a food shortage in the UK short of nuclear war.

got a sort of full fridge and a more than full larder, guess enough for a few months if mixed in with the freezer

will never trust a banker with anything that matters, most of them seem to be ok money wise due to bonuses...

Only reason I would suffer a food shortage is if the missus forgets to go shopping.

She's such a good egg the fridge always seems well stocked!

If there are serious food shortages do you really think the lights will still be on 24/7?

There won't be a food shortage per se. What there will be is a situation where people won't be able to afford the food.

Tell the mate of your old man that if him and his friends knew their arses from a hole in the ground, his job wouldn't now be being subsidised by your tax. You'd be better off listening to the old bloke who sits in the corner of the pub and drinks the slops.

Your other hoarding friends however, are simply a bit dim.
