In the New Year Ford will take a decision on investment for the new model
Transit Van and it looks like production will cease in the UK we need YOUR
help please support the online petition below:

http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/Save-The-Transit/

We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to work with Ford to help
them find the £100 million they claim is needed to prevent the production
of the iconic SWB Transit Van, described as the "Backbone of Britain", from
being off-shored to Turkey with further loss of UK manufacturing jobs. The
Southampton Transit Plant is a significant contributor to the local
economy, the Treasury and through it's exports, the UK's Balance of Trade.

Should we not just either make the UK a place where building cars is an attractive option. Or let them go where they will be successful.

Propping up a specific plant? Not a good plan. Making the country a place people want to invest in an entire industry... A better plan.

Signed it too, it wouldn't be the same to look in the mirror and not see one hanging an inch off my bumper!

VERY nice. Be criminal to get in it with your work gear on tho. Dunno about round your way but turning up to a job in a Brabus might raise a eyebrow or two.

Sadly it won't make any difference! The Southampton workers could jump through flaming hoops between ops and it wouldn't keep the Plant open...

Ford have already made up their minds, just as they did when they shut the PTA in Dagenham and stopped production of the Fiesta in GB.

The bottom line is Ford pay £12 per hour for a line worker in UK.

They pay £4 per hour in Turkey.

They make more money from Transits than anything else as they are essentially an empty box with four wheels and an engine.

They are feeling the pinch of the 'Credit Crunch' and will try to maximise profits.

It's all about money!

...the fact that there is no Turkish word for 'Quality' cuts no ice with those in charge... rolleyes

So, you want us to sign a petition to keep Transit production here, but you're thinking about buying a German van instead? Eh?

I've signed up, I've worked for Ford in a few capacities in the last few years, the Transit plant in Southampton may look from the outside like a bomb hit it but inside is one of the most advanced CV factories in the world thanks to Uncle Henry's investment.

I seriously hope they dont stop some kind of Transit production in the UK as the Transit is an institution like Tea and Coronation Street.....

I would prefer manufacturing stays in Britain and have British guys and girls working and paying tax rather than on the dole.
