I normally sleep just fine but tonight, I'm absolutely exhausted but it just isn't happening frown Don't you just hate it.

Tried all the usual remedies, nothing's worked. I'm on the verge of packing it in and going to make breakfast - I have to be up at 7 anyway!
Even worse is the fact that tomorrow is going to be a long day - having some of the mrs' family over for dinner in the evening and she has been slaving away over an elaborate multi-course dinner for us all for most of today and will be tomorrow too.

Let's talk cars. Have I gone delirious with sleep deprivation? Because I need to chop in the MR2 soon for something with 4 seats so we can fit Mrs K, Baby K and me in the car all at the same time (I have said I'm perfectly happy to just take one of them at a time to places and the other one get the bus but she isn't having it). I've been looking around and thus far have come to the conclusion that a V6 Vectra is the best choice for me. In fact, I quite like the way they look, too. I keep desperately searching for justification - Evo had one on long term test, and really liked it! - isn't that a sign that you're smitten with a car?

God, I can't be smitten with a Vectra, can I? frown What have I become?!

Off back to pointlessly lie in bed for another hour before I call it a night and start thinking about breakfast...

But but, it's quite cheap, and the V6 is not that slow, sounds alright, and I think they look quite nice paperbag

Someone should probably slap me.

Funny that you should post actually, I was looking at XJS's for a laugh too. It amused me that I could insure a 6 litre, V12 Jaguar for less than it costs me to insure my 2l MR2!

Sadly the Jag is long gone, and if i were to run it here would cost me about GBP3000 a year in road tax (its done based on engine size and age)

my insurance in the UK was GBP170 through footman james!

Anyway back to foolish thinkings ... so what are your criteria so that we can find you an alternative wink

(its friday and the rest of the world does not want to do business at the moment so i am bored biggrin )

It's usually when there's something on your mind. If it really is a V6 Vectra, go for it. I used to have a 2.5l V6 Mondeo, and loved it. Had loads of fun in that car.

Even if you can't sleep, lying quietly with your eyes closed is sort of like sleep. You'll probably end up dozing off even if you're not aware you're doing it. And if not, it's the best time, bar none, to sort out your thoughts.

At least this is what I tell myself, and going to take my own advice...

Strong sentiment!

It really pains me but I think I've desperately weighed up pretty much all the options and the Vauxhall wktra sounds like the best all rounder for my criteria... I'll never be able to show my face on here again...

The criteria are very open (has to have a back seat, 8s or faster 0-60, got to look fairly good, cost around £1000 give or take 250, I'm fairly young so insurance still a concern - so sadly no M5s or AMG Mercs quite yet!) hence why I've considered - I think - almost everything...

from Alfa 156 (looks good, but I seem to recall prices a little too high for my tastes, insurance too high for the models with the performance I want)

to E36 3-series (insurance again a problem for the performance wanted, only like the way they look in M3 garb - possible to upgrade the bumpers etc to look the same, but more money than I'd like to spend)

to Puma (ticks most of the boxes, but don't like the way they look)

to mid-90s Civic (looks nice enough for a shed, but again insurance too high for the performance)

Galant (too slow on the most part; the quicker ones are too expensive; insurance)

Impreza (performance-insurance problem)

Pug 106/306 (would have to have a Rallye/GTi - those are too expensive)

Old Saabs (don't like the looks; the ones I do like are recent therefore, pricey)

Starlet GT turbo (quickest car in my range that I've found so far - under 7 seconds! - also cheapest to insure being a 1.3, but I don't like the looks of them much. Bit of a chav image these days, too)

ST205 Celica (only particularly like the looks of the GT-Four, which is too expensive to buy and more money than I'd like to spend to replicate)

Golf (can't stand Golfs of any generation, don't know why, just can't!)

Various Volvos (quick ones too expensive to buy; have to fight increasing urges to buy an estate, with realisation that my Dad doesn't even need the extra space in his 99% of the time and his family is larger than mine and includes a dog!)

Mondeo (quick models too expensive to buy)

... and so on, which has lead me strangely round to the Vauxhall, which as I said before I keep desperately trying to justify to everybody - I think I'm a lost cause, chaps, go on without me frown

Some other conciderations ..... (some of these can probably be got on a classic insurance policy too

OK so some may not meet the 8 second rule, some may be a bit barge like, and one does look like a melted frog, but there are some alternatives none the less!!

I especially like the Audi 80 2.8 and that can probably be had on a classic policy now.
