Make sure you do not miss the return ferry as they will charge you we missed the ferry and got the next one and was charged £72 
for one way as they say fight the pirates, so our group are now going by Eurotunnel as they do not charge if you get the next crossing and it is quicker and with better services at the terminal

I agree the Eurotunnel is the best way to travel over (under?) the Channel but it does depend where you're starting from!
As regards getting the next Shuttle if you fail to be on time for your booked train, you are right in general but not immediately post Le Mans. 2 years ago my son and I returned from Le Mans on the Monday and my son's car broke down very near the terminal. We missed our booked time by a few minutes. The next available train was 6 1/2 hours later due to Le Maners returning. In fact, quite a lot of people were late due to nearby roadworks and all had to wait for hours for a slot. I think this is to be expected post Le Mans based on many years experience. In our case there's a long story and we came back the following day.

our second trip to Le Mans was by Eurotunnel and we decided to drive straight to Calais instead of stoping at Rouen for an overnight stay and had no problem getting a train mind you that was 5 years ago and Le Mans must have got more popularI agree the Eurotunnel is the best way to travel over (under?) the Channel but it does depend where you're starting from!

We have done Speedferries for the last 3 years and although there is absolutely nothing wrong with their service we have got a bit tired of the 4/5 hour drive when we got off. What with the additional cost of the petrol, tolls and numerous stops for food etc., plus the traffic black spots, as well as the 3 hour drive to Dover at stupid o'clock in the morning, we have decided on a little more leisure time. Only 2 hours to Portsmouth and only about 2 hours on the other side with no toll roads.
I know we will get stick from the people that say that the drive is half the fun, and in general I agree, but financially it works out at about the same and I don't have to get up at 3 in the morning !
We should be back home at about the same time on Monday night without the mad dash to the ferry as well.

Booked onto the Speedferries Dover-Boulogne 8am ferry, Thurs 11th June. Top deal at £30 each way for a standard car. Was only £38 each way for my Defender as a "high car". Not as cheap as Norfolkline were last year, but a much faster crossing and an hour or so closer to Le Mans.. seems like a good ticket.
