Just been landed with a massive quote for Monaro rear shock absorbers (one gone only). Has anyone else had this problem?

Whether anyone else has or not...

Have a look at Monkfish and replacing the suspension as some of the Pedders stuff is quite reasonable.

had the rear shocks + springs replaced under warranty...one side was lower than the other.

How old is yours?

Had one go a few months back (car was about 18 months old) 10k miles, it was leaking oil.

After some humming a hawing it was replaced by Picadors (apparently the warranty only covers shocks for first 12 months), but as it was probably faulty from inside that period it was covered. They changed the pair, it took about 3 weeks to get into stock, and about 4hrs to change/realign. Apparently they're mega money in list price, if my claim was rejected I was going to get Rodger to put some coilovers on it. If the cars in warranty, try to take it to a sympathetic dealer and you may be in luck. Sorry to be the bearer of bad new.
