Service intervals

Another numpty question from a first time owner. At what mileage do you need to do minor and major services?

Hmmm... I'm just coming up to 40K and to honest I'm not sure (judging by my poor beasts condition when I first got it) if I believe it had a major service at 30K, so it looks like a major. The reason I ask is that my previous cars have always had a major service at 50-60K.

Anyway, while we're on the subject, anyone know any good indie garages in the manchester area that I should take it to. The idea of letting some ham-fisted Astra technician at the car fills me with dread!
