For the last few months I have been getting post delivered to my address in the name of a foreign (Oriental) lady. These have been from Orange and a company called DLC. I have not opened the post, and have always returned the post to sender.

However, the frequency of the posting has become such that it is getting somewhat annoying, so yesterday I opened the mail to see what it was about.

As it turns out, DLC is a Debt Collection company who are chasing this lass for a couple of hundred quid. They seem to be ignoring the many 'RTS - Addressee Unknown at Address' letters I have sent back. Furthermore, there has never been anyone with that name living at my address.

This letter opened yesterday is threatening bailiffs should the debt not be paid within a few days. I'm not bothered if they decide to waste their own time sending a bailiff when I am in, but do not want bailifs intimidating my GF if she is home alone.

Should I contact them (by phone) to inform them that the addressee is unknown (despite sending about 10-15 items back to them, and a further 10ish items to Orange) or should I just bin any further letters?

Call them mate, let them know the score that she's not there and has buggered off. Large companies probably don't take any notice of RTS'd letter anyway...but they MIGHT be able to find her via a Royal Mail forwarding address.

Also check your credit rating as I believe it is addresses that are blacklisted by credit companies and not people..? I might be wrong but better safe than sorry!

Yes, you are wrong. I find it hard to believe that people actually still believe in 'blacklists', especially for particular addresses.

They don't*, well at least that has been my experience, but I would still be cautious and do the advised thing - check your accounts regularly and also your credit rating. SOmeone, somewhere, is partly using your personal info (granted it amy bea previous resident) - you can never be sure what else they may have and may decide to use.

Just wise precaution in these days of identity theft...

(blacklist addresses that is)
