Has anyone here done or had any experience of a summer internship/work experience at one of the big banks/accounting firms? I know the timing isn't ideal!
I'm currently studying Financial Economics & Accounting and i'm trying to research into work experience for next Sumer. If anyone has done this sort of thing, or works somewhere that offers it, any information on what type of work there is day to day or any opinions on them would be great.

Most of the big banks offer similar schemes, although they seem to be pretty hard to get accepted - will give it a go anyway! Otherwise i may try more local accounting/finance companies and try and get a few weeks work/work experience mainly to get a taster of the work, but also would be pretty good on the CV i guess.

Not really sure what i'm trying to find out, but any sort of information would be good!

I had a mate that did a summer with ABN Amro then started his graduate career with them before moving on. Very difficult to get into, although no more so than the grad programmes at the same organisations.

I was manning an NHS recruitment stand for a while on Thurs, and it was interesting to see how many students are more interested in the public sector in these times of uncertainty.
Money isn't as good as banking, but then if you're out of a job the money in banking ain't so special either.
Last in, first out...

You say what you are studying, but not where? If you want to get an (back office) internship with a bank you need to be at a top 20 uni or know someone to pull some strings!

Our intern was involved in live useful work for her 10 week stay, but she said that some of her intake weren't really doing much day to day. She hasn't got onto the full time programme for next year, but we have kept her on as a contractor, as we needed extra cover.

The kind of things she was doing for me included drafting commentary on financials, creating invoices and inputting data.

If you want to work with a bank next summer you need to be applying as soon as possible as the deadlines are quite tight.
