Yes, I know nobody forces them to get into the ring, and you can get hurt crossing the road etc, etc......

What adults choose to do to each other, so long as it's consensual, is nobody's business but their own. We have too many nannying bans already - leave people the fck alone.

Bad stuff happens to people in all sorts of sports. Do we ban them all?

You'll be telling me next that they want to ban fox hunting. Oh..................

I'm not the biggest boxing fan but I'd be concerned about the impact of a ban on local boxing clubs out there in communities doing a lot of good.

I have no particular views one way or another, I enjoy watching a good fight as much as the next person, however if somebody inflicted these kind of injuries on a passer by in the street they would be looking at a prison stretch in all probability....all in the name of entertainment...Muhammed Ali, Michael Watson brain damaged for example.......

I also understand that it probably force the sport "underground" where there would be no proper medical care on hand......

Just thought it would make an interesting debate..........

I would like to go one further, not only not ban boxing, but also re-introduce the sports of jousting, dueling to the death and a full complement of gladitorial games (just substitute 'prisoners' for 'slaves', offer incentives, and everyone's happy)

Why stop at banning boxing

Ban everything that could possibly cause injury

And lets go further

Kill all children at birth to prevent accidental deaths

For the record, Ali did not receive brain damage from boxing! His mental state began to decline when he was taking hardly any punishment from other boxers (if you discount the frazier fights). They should have stopped him from fighting later in his life however he had parkinsons which was not caused by being 'punch drunk'.

Anyway, if Boxing was banned then everything else should be banned too. Afterall if someone was punched in the face in the street then that would be considered assault, much like the fact that you would receive a speeding ticket if you were to speed on the public roads as opposed to a race track. wink

Ali suffers from Parkinson's Disease, like my father - whom never partook in boxing or fighting in general.
So no correlation to be drawn there.

Fair enough....Very sorry to hear about your Dad btw.........

So it appears the general consensus amongst Ph'ers (so far) is it should not be banned.....
