Some time ago I posted this topic:

..extolling the virtues of TVR ownership and highlighting how little trouble I had with my Chimaera.

Approximately 2 days after I wrote that the car developed a problem with the hydraulic cam follower and went to my local specialist to have it replaced prior to sale. Suffice to say that the engine came apart a number of times before bent pushrods and all sorts were replaced.

I already had an agreement to sell it to the dealer I purchased it off, as I needed a quick sale, trusted them and thought they offered good service. Suffice to say, after the usual screwing about (dealer stating car didn't run properly, accusing other specialist of shoddy work etc. etc.) a price was agreed but I left with a very bad taste in my mouth.

Its a real shame this happened. The car was not perfect but was certainly no worse than when I purchased it. Like most car owners I have this utopian dream of finding the perfect dealer / specialist. I don't know who was at fault in this case (and it was probably 50/50 as there was merit in both arguments), but I am just a poor punter who needs a quick sale. The difference in service and attitude between original sale and re-purchase was astounding.

The upshoot of it is that before that rainy afternoon when I turned up to sell my beloved, I was convinced that I would purchase a Griff when I return from Africa, almost certainly from the same dealer. Now I will not purchase from that dealer, and probably won't purchase a TVR.

Silly isn't it!

By the way - out here I have a Nissan Patrol...
