Norwich nights out.
Discussion
Ahhhhh.....my field of "interest".
Righty ha, here we go!
It depends what kind of atmosphere you're after.
There's Riverside, Prince of Wales Road and Tombland, which are the main areas of nightlife.
Studenty/"student aged" night you'll be looking at the UEA (better at weekends).
Riverside
Lloyds Bar - A Weatherspoons, so cheap
Norwegian Blue - Bar; Students, teens/20s
Squares - Bar-cum-club; younger 20s and teens
Old Orleans - Bar; late teens, early twenties (relaxing bar for pre-drinks)
Prince of Wales Road
Optic - Club; smart attire, more upmarket crowd. R&B downstairs. Relaxed upstairs with sofas. Sometimes Live band
Mercy - Club; teens and 20s. Dance, cheese, poppy type stuff
Chicagos - club for the older crowd (Sorry John
)
Sing-Sings Kareoke Bar
Sonic Bar - a bit "home-boi" for want of a better phrase, with mainly R&B.
Bar X - Pub, random mix of ages and people
Prince of Wales Pub - good mix of people. Can be a bit chavvy, though
Office Bar - At the top of PoWR, usually 20s-30s. Nice atmosphere and plenty of seating
Roccos - next to Mercy and is a Restaurant-cum-bar.
Po Na Na - also at the top of PoWR. Can be a bit grungy/studenty. Dance, trance mostly.
Tombland
The Lawyer - Pub; upmarket, city-types often drink there.
The Glasshouse - Weatherspoons bar, so cheap drinks, hence it's usually very busy on a weekend.
La Tasca Restaurant and Bar - better in the summer, for sitting outside.
Edith Cavell Pub - VERY small, but cozy and nice atmosphere.
Ha Ha - Restaurant-cum-bar
Opposite Ha Has is a side road, which has 3 good bars on it, all attracting teens, 20s and 30s, and they have a superb atmosphere. Good places to start. They are called Orgasmic, Indulge and The Slug and Lettuce. They can all get extremely busy at the start of a night.
Of course there are plenty of other bars and resturants around Norwich and in the city centre, but I've named the 3 major centres of nightlife, and the major pubs, clubs and bars in those areas.
Needless to say I've tried them all. Theres a great mixture of styles and music genres, so you'll find the right place for sure.
Hope this helps!

One idea for you is to register for free on tickred.com and then get some texts sent to your phone.
They have quite a few deals on offer for restaurants and bars around Norwich. I think they even have a few hotels on there too.
The offer is sent to your phone and then you show the text message at whichever place you've chosen.
I have used a few and worked most of the time. One place, the staff didnt actually know of the voucher until they spoke to the boss...

You forgot about the Loft.Thats nice

BUT....the Loft has gone! It's now Media, which is shockingly bad! It's also primarily straight, too because the owner, along with a name change wanted to "break down the prejudgices that currently exist". Basically, they changed their security, who started chucking out regulars for VERY minor things, so it's regular clientel deserted them!

Optic, is that really the pinnacle of a norwich night out?
Now being in my early 20s, it's certainly one of the better clubs, now I've (by and large) finished with the whole younger attitude of "get drunk very quickly, for as little money as possible".....mind you I was at the UEA on Saturday

Take it you both never went there? I thought it was ok in there, no attitude and refreshingly free of pissed idiots. Not a blue oyster in sight either.....
Apart from the obvious reason for me frequenting the Loft, I certainly enjoyed the generally idiot-free clientel, and there was VERY rarely any fights. On the one occasion I've been since becoming the straight club, Media, the people appeared to be largely similar in their attitude-free ways. Although it did appear to have rather alot of pill-heads and grungy types

Also the music wasn't great, IMO. God knows what genre they were playing; it was just bloody awful!

Reread what you have written and then tell me you're not getting old....

I've not been out midweek for quite some time, and I'm usually in a club by 11.
