Been sent a new sim card on a new contract by vodafone (to whom I provided pac code and old number) but they sent it out with a new phone number on. After various arguments and "let me speak to your supervisor" moments, they've agreed they can swap the number on the SIM and this will happen on Weds.

The missus had the same thing (we ordered new contracts at the same time) though has been told its impossible to change the number now by vodafone.....

Technically - can it be done or is a number tied to sim, can they change the number on a contract, will it happen???

Does anyone know for a fact if they can or can't change the number for a sim or if sweet FA will happen this week and I'll have to cancel the contract and re-order?

Thanks

I know you can do that, whether you can change an existing number on a sim card or if they can send one out with a different number on same contract is the question.....

Ofcourse it's possible.

To transfer a number from one network to another you need to had a PAC code (port authorisation code). You get this from your first provider and give it to the second one. This will let them take the number from the first network. It will take a few hours normally but they will schedual it for some time in the future. They should be able to tell you all this?

It can definitely be done. I bought my new phone from T-Mobile after requesting a PAC code from O2. The new phone came with a new number, which remained the same until I gave T-Mobile the PAC code a day or so later. They told me when the number would change, and then I got a text that day to tell me the changeover was complete. Finally, I seem to recall seeing something on my bill that told me I could no longer use the new number - fine by me. wink

Does this help? wobble

Vodafone can change the number on a SIM just like that, I don't know why they're saying it wont happen until Wednesday. Many a time I call them (for work not personal) and they do it straight away. Try calling them back and hope to get someone with a bit of common

That seems to be it. To check - did you only ever have one sim card from T-mobile? and the number on it just changed ? Think thats what you're saying.

Don't suppose you had a better number to call them on ? A number to get through to sensible people?

T-Mobile and Orange come with temporary numbers. You can port your number onto their SIMS within 6 months of connection or you can keep the number they give you.

Voda and O2 are different and require the porting in number to be the first number to be connected.

Yep, that's exactly what happened. I went into the shop, bought a phone with a new SIM in it, went home, phoned O2 and got a PAC code organised. Phoned T-Mobile with the code and asked them to change the number of the new SIM to the number of the old one. Now if you phone me on my old number, it comes through to my T-Mobile phone and the O2 account has ceased to be. If you try to phone me on the new number, I don't know what happens because I can't even remember it, much less phone it. biggrin

Nope. O2 quite happily ported my number after I bought the phone.

The phone number is linked to the SIM card, but not on it. It's a lookup table and can very easily be changed. Not only can they do it, but I believe under ofcom competition rules they are obliged to do it.
