OK, I can understand car related stuff being moved to general gassing, but why do some threads get moved and others don't.

There are plenty of topics on P&P that would be more suitable elsewhere that don't get moved and some that get moved to the related forum, to die a slow and painful death.

Do the mods have any policy on this?

It's all down to whether they're scoffing doughnuts when the thread appears.

This is exactly what I’ve been thinking.

I've not been thinking that. At a guess, if something is 50/50 on whether it should be moved or not, it will be moved if it's for the benefit of the thread. i.e. general gassing. If it's something quite obscure it might be left in P&P/GG because of traffic. i.e. the driving through switzerland thread.

The temptation to move this to website feedback is proving very difficult to resist....

wink

In short, threads get moved to where they're most relevant. The trouble with moving P&P threads 'out' is that they're generally given a little more slack with regard content/banter. The intention is to keep the content of the 'main' forums relevant and on topic. Something that's nigh on impossible in the P&P smile

I was waiting for that one smile

I just think that moving a thread can kill it, that's all. The 2 threads about old skool rave and alternative 80's music would have got about 3 replies if they had been posted in the music section.

I think that says more about the thread content than anything...

There's no policing as far as I can see.

I suggested to the mods that the recent 'rave music' thread might be better off in the MUSIC section instead of P&P. My suggestion was ignored either because..

a) Rave music isn't music
b) The report option is bust
c) The mods ignored it because of some other agenda

confused

or it well less to do with music and more to do with the "clubbing"

Over modding of stuff like this can kill a forum dead. Seen it before, trigger happy mods going into 'its in the wrong place' mode. Burying conversation before it can really get off the gound.

Stifles conversation on certain subjects that are deemed to have their own sub forums.

Personally I dont think a Car specific forum should have sub forums for other interests. Why does PH have a 'Watches' sub forum etc? Or a 'boats' sub forum? When there are many topics that dont get pidgeon holed away.
