Warranty work .... tis going to cost the big V some £ ....
Discussion
Well seeing as I keep on reading posts about issues that are covered by warranty I thought I'd get the Ro' up on the ramps in the garage and have a nosy around.
Spotted this when going over the car with a fine tooth comb.
Spoiler - removed paint on boot lit down to the bare metal and looks like it's missing a rubber gromit/support to stop it doing so ....
I applied a little upwards pressure to expose the 'underneath'
I expect that to be resolved. Anyone else with a VXR checked the same thing?
Passenger door release pin - I tried to open it for the first time from the inside (not via the keyfob) and 'ping' out it came, won't open the door as it's takes less pressure to pull it off than it does to open the door, grrr.
Then we have the flakey door handles, on both sides!
and
Then we have the cracked and sprayed rear bumper! Looks as though it was done when the reverse parking sensors were fitted, super pikey!
Then theres the nice paint run on the rear wing!
Once the car was UP and on my ramps I noticed oil on the under side (not from the sackless dealers not fitting the oil filter) but up on the bottom of the gear linkage/shifter. Not sure if it's normal or whether it's spray from the drive train ... hmmm any insight?
Here's the car on the ramps, my pops made them. Saw some similar ones on the t'inter'web, simple drive on and them jack the back up if needs be. makes checking things a since, my FTO lives on them when not being driven.
He can make more

Thanks peeps

Well the oil spray is from the gearbox tailshaft seal. Could be down to a clogged gearbox case breather maybe? When the breather gets plugged you get a little pressure inside the case as everything warms up through use and the oil gets worked by the gears. Clear breathers are vital on both engine, gearbox and diffs to prevent leakage from seals like this. Roger at Monkfish is your best hope for verdict and diagnosis here, he's probably dealt with more of these gearboxes than you've had hot dinners.
I think the door handles paint flaking is one of the most common warranty claims, but actual owners will be able to give you the lowdown. I also remember the spoiler/boot interface issue being common and I seem to remember most managed to get it warrantied but that it was basically a design flaw and there was no factory rubber or suchlike meant to go between the two...! I'll stop speculating now and let people who know for sure add their tuppence

Sorry not trying to Hijack your thread but where did you get those ramps????
read the thread
My dad made them, the have so far held my FTO, Glanza, 2 mustangs, a mates' transit (out in the open). They're class. You simply clip the trailing ramps on, drive the car up until you hit the tubular stop rollers, then go underneath and jack (using a large jack) the rear trail bar up, it lifts the ramps level. Then you slot the axle stands in, either using the red temp ones or using my own wedge shape (connect to the ramp with bolts). Then take the trailing ramps off and you can work away, safe it the knowledge that your car is high and dry, safe and secure.
Good ey!
Here is the FTO from a side on shot so you can see the ramps from a better angle.

I would not risk that!! The tilt point looks a fairly weak point! Have you had any propper load testing placed on them (obviously they appear to support teh car but have you had any propper stress testing)?
No thanks, not for me!

Mr Freud,
What you see in the pictures are the temp (red) axle stands and the temporary tube (stilts) supports. The long term high quality support are made to match the frame of the ramps, like a cheese wedge made of nigh on solid metal, very very heavy.
My dad's a rig based metal worker, solely responsible for the safety of hundreds of men, he's made sure the ramp would not fail. I think he cares a little for his son than the blokes he works with.
I'd be willing to work on a transit van under there once secured properly. It beats a trolley jack and good luck!

Back on topic - I think the spoiler / boot paint issue is an TADT - good luck tho!
TADT = FAIL! TADT = not fit for purpose! TADT = known issue and therefore needs resolving
Just like the 1st Gen Honda S2000, all rear plastic screens used to crease and age, then snap along the crease lines. Honda would say "sorry" the savvy owner would claim not fit for purpose and get it fixed.
If you stick at it ....
Does anyone know/have access to the warranty claim numbers so I can reference them in an email or call with the head of servicing at Vauxhall when I contact them later on today.
I'm looking for recall/fix numbers for ...
*Doors handles
*Spoiler
*Passenger side door internal door release not working
*Paint issues
Thanks in advance

So how much would your Dad charge for a ramp like that?
My brother bought his from http://www.restorationramps.co.uk/ so he can put his piles of rusting vw's on it. ukvoyager.info said:

My brother bought his from www.restorationramps.co.uk/ so he can put his piles of rusting vw's on it. oooooooohhhh they look just like ming (cough cough), my dad charges less and also has safer support ramps with bolts rather than twist locks (dubious).
He's working on a hand pump so you can stand back (rather than being under the vehicle) and jack the ramps up whilst stood up checking on progress.
I think the original post only provides a small bit of the required info - eg. what age is the car, when and from where did you buy it?
I doubt that Vauxhall and going to sort a cracked rear bumper and paint runs - I had 3 and they were all perfect in both of those areas - so its more likely yours has had some damage repaired prior to your ownership. Did you check pre purchase and if so why did you buy this car?
The handles may be claimed but if you car is +3yrs old and you bought privately then I somehow doubt any dealer will go out on a limb to push this for you.

Benno it's a 56 plate VXR, bought with one owner from a Vaux dealership. It's still within warranty. I bought it about 6 weeks ago.
It's not a cracked bumper solely, it was cracked when fitting the parking sensors ... when being built plus the paint on the car has never been touched, no damage or bumps, spraying etc.
I did check pre purchase, I bought it as I wanted one and was well aware that the few niggles I had spotted could/would be sorted under warranty.
My car is only just over 2 years old, and if Vaux think that a factory spoiler that rips paint off, a broken during fitting bumper which has been sprayed over, a passenger door that can't be opened from the inside and a bubble/run in original paint is OK ... then I believe they will have an argument on their hands.

Just spoke to Les (bodyshop manager at Sherwoods in Darlington) and he's on the case, he's in discussion with the warranty people and has stated that it will be going in for all the work soon!
Progress! Sherwoods so far appear to be the dog knackers
I will keep you all posted.
No need for the warranty claim numbers.
