Was hit by a car last night...

...Finally happened on my cycle home, have been cycling 13 miles a day 4 times a week on and off for about 2 years and last night a car pulled across in front of me and i went over the bonnet.
Bound to happen at some point i guess and with it getting darking earlier. Don't get me wrong i have lights and am very visable, the driver just didn't see me....
Quick trip to A and E and all fine, couple of cuts and bruises but nothing major...
Anyone else had any scrapes recently ??

Glad to hear you are fine.......... but how is the bike? 
Need new front wheel but apart from that all repairable...Worst bit was waiting in A and E !!! You really get some scuffly people in there... was mean't to wait to have an x ray but just could not be bothered after 40 minutes... so walked home in the rain.. thanks NHS

Not as such but I've had a few near misses from myopic or simply idiotic drivers over the past few weeks.Worst couple I can recall:
1. Me at a T junction waiting to turn right. Woman in a 4x4 pulls up on my inside and then proceeds to turn right, trying to cut across my bows! Thankfully she bottled the move and ended up behind me. To (almost) add injury to insult, she then proceeded to overtake at 0.01mph faster than me around a blind bend and nearly took me off when she had to cut in to avoid a head-on collision.
2. Rover 200-driving old codger waiting at a side road to my right, trying to join the traffic going my way on the main road. He looks, couldn't possibly have failed to see me (lots of flashing lights, bright yellow jacket etc.) but pulls out anyway. Would have been ok as long as he put a bit of commitment into it and accelerated but no; he joins alongside me doing the same speed. Still would have been ok as long as he left some room but no; he then went on to drift left so far as to put himself in danger of clashing mirrors with parked cars (with me left as the meat in the sandwich). Had to brake very hard to escape that one.

king artards Had a couple of near misses on the way home last night. Got into some speedway style sideways action avoiding one numpty on a roundabout.
I looked like a drowned rat last night when I got home
Glad there's no 'real' damage done. Always amazes me when drivers say 'the bike came out of nowhere'. Like cyclists have the power of teleportation and use it to appear accross car bonnets.

The driver normally say two things:
"Sorry, mate I didn't see ya" (SMIDSY)
then:
"How much!!!! After you tell him the bill for repairs.
I hope your incident did not inconvenience any other road user, which appears to be the major consideration.

Too many near misses to mention, despite the fact I am on a bright yellow bakfiets with a massive red hood on it, 3 rear lights, loads of silver reflective tape, B&M front light and a green front blinky. The usual of pulling along side then turning left, or my personal favourite, simply joining a roundabout as if I don't exist. A bus wandered into the cycle lane on me today, which is a real pleasure when you are on a 120lbs bakfiets.
I am always trying to bear in mind that it's not deliberate. When I was 14/15, a driver did pulled across and I went over the bonnet (like the OP). I heard him restart the engine and reverse. I thought he was going to drive away, so I leapt on the bonnet and tried to stamp the windscreen in. If I'd been successful, I suspect I'd still be dealing with the consequences.
I was leaving work the other day, and saw one of the bikers here nearly get taken out by another member of staff. The next day, I told the biker that I saw it and knew who it was. He couldn't remember it, and that if he got stressed about every time he was nearly knocked off, he wouldn't ride. That's a state of mind I am trying to attain.

Ask half the Pie & Piston and they'll explain how unreasonable of you it was to dent that nice road-tax-paying motorist's bonnet. 
Sorry - excuse the moan - needed to get it out my system. Very glad to hear you're ok and I hope it'll encourage the driver in question to open his eyes in the future.

How many people have near misses because people assume because you're on a bike you're doing about 5mph rather than 25-30mph that I quite often do? Had to slam on the brakes a number of times because of that with near misses. Aberdeen seems to be a lot slower than other places for the average cyclist speed to be "fair".

I had some idiot woman undertake me on a small roundabout this evening, had to brake fairly sharply to avoid broadsiding her. I was in the right hand side of the lane wanting to go straight on, she just undertook me and then turned right across my bows.
Luckily she was entering a somewhat winding one-way system and my road bike can put some pace in when needs be, so we had a frank exchange of opinions down the road! She did apologise fairly rapidly though.

Totally agree with that... best way to deal with itBut in the case with me he was sitting in traffic up the road from me, heading the same direction and suddenly decided to turn left.... I did not stand a chance !!
In fact what is everyones view on this, I told the driver he could go after i realised i was ok.... Should i have made sure he stayed till the police arrived... My brother thinks i should be sueing him
A mate of mine was riding his spech home when a car turned right infront of him resulting in his bike needing repair (Forks, bars, wheel etc) and with him clearing the bonnet and landing on the road he broke his collar bone. He got his bike fixed got a bike from the insurance and is due to get a claim for the crash. Dont know how much he is getting but i think it will be a nice wallet filler.
