The Pork needs an M.O.T. does anyone have any suggestions of a trustworthy place that can do it for me? Based in B.S.E. but am willing to travel a few miles.

In an ideal world would like someone that is not trying to charge me the full maximum of £53.10 or in some cases worse!!!

TIA.

I have just had my Kit car Mot'd for the second year running at Rougham Motors (01359 271238), on the industrial estate beside the airfield. Paul and Kevin always seem to be interested in looking at something out of the ordinary, instead of the normal eurobox! I think they charged me £48.00.

Crikey, they still there? Used to use them in early 2000. May well pay them a visit.

Thanks Gary.

The maximum fee an MOT test station can charge for carrying out a class 4 test is £53.10

Can I NOT recommend Ian Button Motors in Fordham near Soham who despite saying lovely things about my Cobra, charged me £79.12 for an MOT and insisted it had to be paid cash. The Cobra failed the MOT after they were sure it would pass, I would have taken it away to fix any faults they pointed out otherwise, then weren't happy to give me any help after the Cobra broke at Marham. I had popped round to ask their advice before possibly giving them quite a lot of money to fix it! Sod that, I'll do it myself.
So I paid £79.12 for absolutely nothing. And they didn't exactly drive the Cobra sensibly on its way to the MOT either. I wasn't too impressed. The only thing they were good at is squeezing me in at short notice on a Friday.

We're not supposed to name and shame but it seems they may have deserved this one. Anyone from Ian Button Motors wish to comment?

Next time you need it doing, I can recommend Townsend Garage in Soham. They fitted my Skoda in the day after I phoned, and looked after the Caterham well too. Only snag they had was that they struggled a bit with the rollcage and tiny pedal box, but I guess your Cobra should be rather better... They look after my Dad's Morgan too.

Thanks Tom! I'll bear that in mind when I EVENTUALLY get around to fixing the Cobra! It should be started by January, I'm aiming for the RAF Marham track day in April (if I'm still around!) so no hurry.....yet.

RAC service centre in Norwich are offering half price MOT's at £25. They have coupons in the EDP most Saturdays.
When I booked mine, I never had a voucher, just said I'd seen it advertised and they never asked to see it when I turned up.

Like I said before, if you need a spanner holding assistant do shout. Sounds like my 7 suspension rebuild might beat your Cobra repair though...
