Bike engined cars?????
Discussion
Hello, am hoping to purchase a new weekend/track day plaything soon, and have been looking at the usual suspects (Lotus Elise/TVR and even a Porsche 911/996) however a few of the bike engined cars have caught my eye, as they produce some pretty outrageous figures.
This one in particular:

Now I have never had a motorbike, and have always had fast cars, ranging from Cosworths, to TVRs and many in between. Now I know you have to rev the hell out of a bike engined car to get it to work properly, but would that be ok for weekends and track days?
Just after some opinions, as don't really want to spend too much and wrap it around a barrier at a track day!
thanks
Lee

Lee, where abouts are you in the country, as if you have not been out in one, blag a ride first.
BEC's are a bit marmite - people love them or hate them. I have a BEC as my weekend toy/trackday car and I love it to bits.
If you do a number of trackdays, then the biggest issues is noise, my car at SVA was 96 bd at 6000 rpm, but redlines at 12 so I tend to go for 105 driveby limits only.
As a weekend toy, i go out for a blat on my own regularily. You cannot really have a conversation at 70, due to wind and engine noise - so it all comes down to what you want from it as a weekend toy.
Cheers

Fair point, I am near Portsmouth, so may well have to see about going in one first to see if I like it enough. The thing is I was looking at about 15K for a Porsche or a TVR, but the BECs seem much more suited to track days, but then again so is an Elise.
I guess trying one will be the best thing.

If track work is what you're really interested, the a BEC is really the way to go, a TVR, 911, elise etc etc are easy work in a well set up BEC
power power to weight ratio and handling in a GOOD seven is just unreal, also beacuse of their light weight they are really easy on tyres, brakes etc.... so MUCH cheaper to run..
plenty out there too - so enjoy the search..
be careful though its addictive - and if you've got an itch for speed/adrenalin you may get into the numerous championships to race or sprint one :-)

That is what is worrying me.....I have always had a lot of fast cars, and always wanted to make them go faster, for example I had a 425bhp mk1 Escort!

DAM, that must have been a handful, Lee
Wilst we are on the subject of going for a ride. id also like a ride in a bike powerd kit car for the same resson. im shore i could return the favour with a nice cold beer afterwards.
