My driver's door makes 2 distinct clicks at certain points during opening. As passenger one does not (and I do not remember this in my last 911) it must be a problem.
Any comments are welcomed as to how I fix this.

Dave, I am going to presume that you are talking about a 993! Sounds like you have a failled door check strap. Same thing happened on mine, its caused by the door being opened too wide and the metal strap breaks away behind the panel.

The repair is about £400 through your OPC bodyshop. If your car is under 10 yeard old try and call Porsche GB first and see if you can claim on your 10 year body warranty.

Its an expensive little click, but I couldnt live with it!

now i have never bought a check strap for a porsche but £400 sounds like a lot of money.
I have changed many check straps before on all sorts of vehicles and i thik the most expensive was around £50 and that was for a mercedes. If you can buy a new strap yourself then have a go at fitting it, its not very difficult and very straight forward.

Maybe my post was a little ambigious. The whole repair through my OPC body shop was £384.88 (plus VAT) Still expensive, but I wanted the repair to be right and also the new parts (and fitting) to carry a Porsche Lifetime Guarantee, just in case the thing failled again (they only fit the same bit anyway)!

The check strap, check strap pin and door foil cost £48.50 (plus VAT) The labour, re-painting of the A Post and rustproofing cost the rest!

Dave, there is another trick to save money on this repair, but you might want to e-mail me outside of this forum to discuss.

It's the tutting of the passenger after you took the last corner too fast........

getting back to the original posting, you will find plenty on this topic over at rennlist, both 993 and 964 forums. the problem is caused by opening the door too wide and stressing some sheet metal/welds inside the door that act as the restraint on the door strap. eventually this distortion forces the end of the check strap to push out the door skin ( a sort of reverse dent )....
a quick fix - which will result in door swinging freely without any drag - is to remove both the bolts either side of where strap enters door. door will still stop opening at end of strap ie wont over open, but you need to be careful.....if you shove it hard and it does over open it will crease the front edge of the door
