I want to get some fabrication work done, L-brackets, made of steel.

No idea where to start or even what to budget. Assuming the brackets were about 1000mm x 100mm x 3mm, folded, and I was to want about
100 of them, what sort of price region is it likely to be ? What major things affect the cost?

I needed a bracket made up to fit on my tow bar as part of a rack to carry my motorbike (let the old bracket go when I sold the car! Doh!). I found a place called Midas Steel in St.Albans, but wondered into the workshop next door (different company) and the chap agreed to do the job for me out of hours. I just had to cobble together a diagram. Anyway (I'm rambling!) I think Midas are just steel suppliers, so if you give them a call and mention their neighbour, I'm sure you'll get everything you want. Midas' number is 01727 853348 - Pickford Road, St. Albans, Hertfordshire AL1 5JH. (I don't know the name or number of the place I used next door!).

hey,
we use a company called MJH for that kind of stuff (Steve Hodges 01386 561032)
Factors which affect cost - material (amount, grade, thickness), finish (Paint / powder coat) and work (fold, drill) as well as volume of course.
the volumes you are quoting are about the same we buy, so MJH should fit well.
to anticipate a price, look up the cost of the raw material on the interweb, then add a bit, depending on the above.
dont forget to tell steve dave from penso sent you... ;-)

As above, lots of factors will change price. Ball park £10-£20 each. We have full fabrication workshops at your disposal... (in the UK and China).
