Sorry i know this has probably been asked a million times before but.........

what is the difference between Yokohama AO48s and AD07s ??
Mine has the AO48s on but i am looking to buy a new set and im confused by the choices available.

I use my car every day for travelling to and from work, some motorway use when the rain isnt too heavy and will be doing the odd trackday.

What tyre would you recommend, please dont say Bridgestone as my head really will hurt then.

Hello mate.

The AD07S won't fit on your Exige as the wheels are wider at the front only ao48s will fit.
There are other options but non Lotus approved. As i work at a dealer i can't recommend anything, but there are some Exiges we see with Dunlops sp9000, Toyo tyres on etc. So there are obviously tyres which will fit but how they will affect the handling come a trackday or day to day use i don't know.
If there's anything else I can help with give me a shout over at Stratton Motor Company 01508 530491.

Hope this helps

Tim Rolph.

If you have an Exige, the choice is more limited and AD07s don't come in the correct sizes (unfortunately).

If you can stand the cost (even more than A048s!) then the best tyre for what you want is the A039. It's kind of the same rubber as the A048 but with more conventional tread cut in it.

I use them a bit and they grip almost as well as A048s in the dry and are as good if not better than a normal tyre in the wet.

Goodyear Eagle F1's are pretty popular on exiges.com for road use. I'm on R888s with no worryies (so far).

If this is the case why are Lipscomb selling an Yellow My04 s2 Exige with Dunlops on? I dont dispute what your saying as i've read the same on other Exige forums but if other tyres are non lotus approved surely this would void their own 1 year warrenty?

whats in the owners manual and what on the "approved" list by Lotus are 2 different things - Toyo T1-Rs are on the "approved" list

that just means that you can fit them (or the Dunlops) without invalidating your insurance, but Lotus dont 'recommend' them for optimum performance ...thats your A048s that will be listed in the manual smile

very confusing, if only Yokohama did an AD07 in 195 fronts, it would be much easier - for everyday use, Exige or Elise then AD07, for track use, Elise or Exige then A048s ...easy ..well it would be if both cars came with 195 fronts and both tyres were made in 195 ....doh !

Got quoted £500 a set for the R888s, reasonable or not?

If you're not doing trackwork, and cost is not a problem, spend your money and get 39's as Simon recommends. If money is a factor, get a set of Toyo T1R's which will be fine for road tyres over winter. Swap back to 888's in Spring. If you think you can bear with driving very slowly in wet weather if there's standing water, 888's are better than AO48's in my experience.

Sounds okay, not sure without digging out some old bills. If you get them from camskill then you'll probably get the best price going for 888's. ISTR a full set was <£500 but that was a few months back.

if you are getting 888's for road use, make sure you get the medium compound which is "GG" spec.

What about a second set of wheels (111R spec)with AD07s for the winter and keep the AO48s for Trackdays. I expect you will pay for the wheels in the long term as you will get more miles out of the AD07s and can get the benefit of the 48s in the summer/on track
